Well it's posted on Ippinkan which are the sole retailer of Airbow so you can draw your own conclusions. The SR-SC1 is a lovely headphone but better than a 007A... ehhh nope...
-
Highest Vbr to make sure the parts weren't marginal. I never tried it though, it just went on my gigantic to-do list.
As Kevin pointed out to me, the much higher inductance of the Xicon's (compared to the PRP and Dale's) might help to kill the oscillation causing this noise issue.
-
One can always find some other use for those PRP's.
-
Will you redo the PSU for me to? Bloody thing hums after the whole transformer fiasco....
Looks like I'll be ordering some resistors. Not that I don't have a Mouser shipment already on the way...
-
Spritzer, did you ever get yours working properly?
I have some oscillation, no 'noise' though. I'm using Dale resistors in the batteries, as the Xicon are slightly inductive I have found. I think my issue is related to the position of the feedback resistors, and I haven't had a chance to verify that.
I haven't even looked at mine since July but one side on my unit is dead quiet while the other one has noise issues. Could be the resistors but Kevin suggested 3675's which were borderline that could be the cause.
Are you using CCF or CMF's? I've started to use CCF's in most of my projects now given how cheap they are and that Krell used to use them...

There is something "off" about the SZ3 units and the measurements just confirm it. I ripped mine apart last week, installed Mk1 drivers and the sound is completely different so Stax did this on purpose by messing with the drivers.
Tyll, this is EXCELLENT! Your measurements are really of amazing consistency (the 2 SR009). I was shocked to see the differences between the Omega2 Mk1 and 2.5. Seeing this and comparing to the 009, I think my pair (a late Mk2 e.g. SZ2 series) is closer to the mk2.5 than mk1. The mid bass hump / lack of infra-bass and warm signature with just a treble spike makes a lot of sense as these are basically the things I hear as large improvements out of the 009. Oppositely, Birgir is not noticing such drastic improvement going from his Omega 2 to the 009 and I guess it's because he worked out how to get Omega 2 to sound the best (using mk1 drivers, closing the vent, adjusting the ear pad depth and so forth...).
Well there isn't a port on the Mk1 so that is a non issue but the devil is indeed in the details with the 007. Getting the arcs bent just right and also getting the earpads angled properly is all crucial to getting most out of them. Also, if the earpads have ever been removed it is vital to install them correctly. Same deal on replacing them once the foam has perished.
As it stands now the 007Mk1 does things that the 009 just can't do, and vice versa for that matter, but the 007Mk1 wins out in my book by simply being more natural sounding.
-
The effect of the port is well documented so that isn't really an issue. I also manipulate the arcs so that the port isn't a big deal even without it being sealed.
The end result of Mk1 drivers in a Mk2 frame is just a Mk1 with more pronounced bass. That being the effect of the deeper earpads.

They did the same thing to my wife last fall, Shelly, the night before the flight. It was a huge pain for her to get it changed especially since the surrounding time slot flights were very full. I wish you the best of luck.
Me: made some homemade bread with Lily that we just used for lunch. It came out pretty good for the first loaf I've baked in years.
You should introduce some steam into the oven at the start of baking for a much nicer crust. Just throwing a bit of water (1/2 cup would do it) on any of the metal parts of the oven will work. It's also a good idea to insert the bread at a higher temperature than you bake it at to offset the temperature difference of the cold loaf of bread vs. the hot oven. Other than that, good work.

It's a bit shocking that they are still using that awful ESP9 headband...

bdent seems to have their shit together. Here's a comparison of the C3675 from bdent to utsource:
top bdent, bottom utsource:
You can see that the utsource devices are not as cleanly made as the bdent devices. In particular, bdent devices have a circle on the front when utsource device is a dot, and the edges of the bdent devices are much redder than the utsource devices. Both have voltage breakdown around 1110V. If these are fakes these are quite advanced fakes. If someone would like to test them under a curve tracer I'd gladly drop a few in the mail to you for free. album here.
The bottom ones look like every C3675 I've ever use so they are real.

I've been testing out some theories with my SR-007's recently and it is quite clear that the odd sound of the SZ3 versions is all due to the drivers. I just swapped some late Mk1 drivers into my Mk2 set and the sound is completely different. Gone is the hard, forward edge of the SZ3 and this one sounds just like my Mk1. I decided to make the comparison fair so the port is plugged but only Mk2 parts were used aside from the drivers.
I wouldn't recommend the driver swap since I had to modify the drivers a little bit and there are no spares anywhere if one messes up...
The shape of the Mk1 drivers is also just a little bit different so they don't rotate as freely as they should. Small issue for me and some might even welcome it.

...other than to say I am confused about the whole thing.
That certainly appears to be the case, you certainly don't see the whole picture here.
-
A. Who cares, B. The only such rumors I have seen have been from you, and C. The ground plane on the PCB is indeed a little messy, and there appear to be traces to nowhere. However, it seems really unlikely that any of that will actually influence performance negatively. Perhaps it reflects badly on the designer as someone who is not particularly detail oriented, but all empirical evidence seems to indicate that the amplifier operates as advertised.
I don't care about this amp one bit but plenty of people do and some of them happen to be Mafia members.
As for the PCB design, you clearly don't see my point. This idiot attacks Ti openly and claims to have a superior design (because nobody has ever designed for low distortion before
) but can't even do the basics right . The end result leaves a lot to be desired and the only reason this gets any attention is due to people out to prove a point they don't even understand.
-
Not sure but I for one wouldn't believe anything he says. Maybe it is just me though...
-
I've have heard enough rumors to the contrary to take them seriously but only time will tell I guess.
-
I've had my fill of trying to show people how to properly do things to be honest. On top of that I don't relish the thought of dealing with somebody as disturbed as this. Then we have the whole issue of why I should help somebody who is clearly going to start selling amps commercially.
-
I really have no idea about the differences between their products, so I was completely joking. I did check, though, and they will be at RMAF so I can check that out. Plus, they are located only 1.5 hours from here...
I know you were...
I can't wait to hear this one though since in theory it should be awesome and as "future proof" as they come.
-
Exactly, I also never understood why he attacked Ti when there is so much crap out there. Goes to show that this idiot hasn't got a clue what he's doing.
I'm sure there's a measurement to explain.
A measurement to explain a ground plane that doesn't work? Yeah sure, it's not more likely that the designer is incompetent or anything like that...
-
Well I can always upgrade later on (the dacs just plug into the motherboard) but paying an obscene amount of money for some slightly better resistors is just not a good move in my book. Plus, that money has been allocated elsewhere... for expensive resistors for use in new amp designs.
-
Look at the ground plane, it is a bad joke.
-
I'll test it then just to me sure...
-
While this has been in the works for a while now I just sent the payment today for a MSB Platinum DACIII with volume control, 32bit/384kHz USB input plus all the latest firmware upgrades. Not cheap by any means but hopefully a end stop for me when it comes to sources.
-
I really don't see why people are so excited about this amp since it offers nothing new in terms of performance and the PCB design and layout is piss poor to say the least. Add to that a "designer" who is far from stable, thinks he knows something others don't and it isn't promising....
