  1. Yeah, see, there's already one I missed, and that one definitely ranks pretty highly on my list.

I'll add Devin to my must-hear list -- I like pretty much everything he's associated with (self, Vai, SYL, etc.).

Devin's stuff is much closer to SYL, but alot more 'epic' in a sense.

  2. Hmm, see I'm not the type to really care if a band puts out something new sounding every time (as evidenced by having bands like Iron Maiden and Running Wild amongst my favorites). So long as it's exciting/compelling, and not completely derivative, I'm in for the ride. And Paradise Lost is a face-melter in my book. I would say I prefer the more melodic side of SX, but the heavy side seen on most of PL and a good chunk of the Odyssey is pretty nice too.

Well then I am not sure how you evaluated Dark Eternal Night. Annoying vocals Labrie's may be, but the riffing on that thing is monstrous.

Edit: saw link to your review.

  3. I certainly hope so. I'm not expecting miracles but it should be clear step in the right direction with the updated output stage. I will also save a bundle as there is no need for volume pots on any of my new amps.

We could just take a bunch of thin wires and run them around separate parts of the room to the headphone...

  4. Lack sharpness .... the treble can drill holes in your ears. If you mean lacking sharpness .... referring to the dull, colored and recessed mids I would agree with you.

I mean edge to tone. The treble does not drill my ears on Edition 9, iono wtf was with your pair...SR325i drills my ears, Proline does, not Edition 9. But there is an effect where the edge to the tone is poor. This type of effect generally occurs as a result of uneven treble.

  5. Yeah, that is what usually does it for me too. ;)Hmmm... Well, not sure if I've heard those notes before, or heard them properly, but I certainly enjoy that album on my rig. What sort of speaker setup would you need to properly play that sort of note? If it is 16Hz and Ryan's halving theory holds true, you'd need to get down to 4Hz to REALLY hear everything there. :)

If you want to go by Ryan's theory, things are not discrete and you need down to 0 (4, 2, 1, 1/2, 1/4, power series around (1/2)^p)

You would need the speakers because 16 hz is sub-bass and headphones cannot get the resonance properly for you to hear it (save select ones that have mucho mucho bass).

  6. Though I think they do go below 40, there is not really much left below there anyways...

There is a reason I mentioned one album before...and it is just an example.

Bass drums sit on pretty much everything between 10 hz and up from there.

    ^.^

+ I learned that apparently specs rarely hold...very very rarely...

  7. How can ar not be fair? Its totally random, sure, sometimes the teams can be way off balance, but I've come from behind quite a few times. I'll admit, I'm not that great at figuring out counter heroes yet, besides naix vs intelligence heroes and maybe mana burners (nerub and magina).

    Naix is anti-tank.

  8. Not sure why you took my comment so harshly. ???

Well, I did not mean to do this aggressively, but I am trying to see what the differences are. I am just having trouble believing that a K340 system can do very deep bass. It does not mean one cannot be happy with its sound, for jazz I love going to K340. But bass is just not what k340 will be ever able to do seriously, at least not any of the 7 pairs I have heard.

And my whole list of things is to quote what I have done with regards to improving it...it just does not seem feasible that after all this, certain quality of it is quoted to be vastly different from what it is. None of the K340s I have heard went below 40, and for the most part they begin to sharply roll-off after 60.
