  1. If you're anything like me, don't worry too much about the hours.

I was a total night owl too.

I took a job that started at 6:30am and I really thought that I'd never get used to it. I did fairly quickly and grew to prefer it (very little traffic either way, got a jump on the crowd when I went to the store etc).

Did the same a number of years back.  Going to daylight hours was really a treat I did not expect.  I had just spent so many weekends trying to keep up with the rest of the "daylight hours people" and not knowing, really, what day it was.  It never really worked for me at night.  I think you might like the change.  I don't know what your back issues are, but where I work now we have a few people using the motorized lift desks so you can stand or sit whenever you want.  I think they are quite happy with them.  As much as can be.  Good luck.

And for Larry - OMG.  I'm so glad to see you posting.  Sending healing thoughts your way.

  2. Front Point Security.  Completely wireless system, upfront pricing.  You do your own install, they help you ensure it is all connected.  They also have a cool mobile app so I can turn on the lights, etc, while away, check the alarm status, etc.  I thought their pricing was pretty decent.

  3. Happy belated!  50's a big one, I just had mine last year.  (Kinda figures we are close in years.)

That makes three of us.  No worries: as your body goes to hell, your brain continues to grow.  Well, at least for what you might remember.

    Happy Birthday!

  4. I'm pretty partial to ASC Tube Traps.   They made a huge improvement in my own room, and it doesn't remotely sound dead.   After talking with them (the people at ASC, not the Tube Traps) the speaker placement was just as important as the traps themselves.  Do the math and get your speakers 29% (I believe) from the wall behind them.

tubetrap.com is more of a fansite, but has good setup diagrams and such.

Acoustic Sciences is the product home.

I'm still not done with what was "prescribed" for my room.  I should probably take the dollars I have for a turntable purchase and get another set of traps instead.

  5. A couple of passes with this from about arm's length should take care of the dust that is able to be blown off.

I have a Metro car vac kit and it's quite amazing.  They are usually overpowered and the company has an old-school reputation for having good products.  For me, this would be a good way to finally stop buying canned air at costco.

Anyway, this would be my vote for what do to - just blow it out.

  6. Great news on new jobs.  That's always fun.  Well, I hope it is, anyway.

I finished a four day class on Spring Core.  Spring is a dev framework that works with Java.  I had read some tech books prior to the class, but crap, I had no idea how much meat I wasn't getting in the books.  Geez.  It was awesome.  Hopefully I'll get to use it a lot...I suppose that part is up to me.

  7. Ah, Mike L, up here in the Seattle area.  Nicest guy you will ever meet in audio.  The rest of his system is here.  I have not heard his recent version of the system, but a friend a few years back declared it to be easily in the top five on the west coast.  Check out the last photo: When he bought the house, it had a horse barn out back.  He had it closed in and walled in, with the acoustic work being done by Rives Audio.  Total custom from top to bottom.  Damn.

  8. Yin sand and Yang sand to correspond with and neutralitize alternating current. I'm guessing the darker sand would neutralitize any current on white wire, and the lighter sand would neutralitize (yes, you read that term right) any current on black wire.  Ground is where the sand comes from, so no specific sand is required to bring it into adjustment.

So I am 10 years late to the party. Less fun. But let's not be too hard here, consider these Gold Feet: rather advanced, with gold wrapping, duct tape and no less than two kinds of sand.
