  1. Nate, I feel your pain.  I did some minor plumbing repairs on my toilet earlier in the week and when I turned the water back on, my pressure relief valve on my boiler had a slow leak.  Went to the HVAC distributor and bought a replacement 30 psi valve.  Installed it and it now leaked like an open faucet.  Thinking that this one might be bad also, I traded this new one for another.  Same problem.  This time I noticed that the system pressure was up to 60 PSI when I re-pressurized the system, not good.  Soooo, after doing a more through examination, I found that  my main system feeder valve is leaking, my pressure regulator is not functioning, and my pressure tank is completely filled with water.  Looks like I'm going to make some one rich this coming week.

  2. Finished my KSA5 and am very pleased after a relativly short listening session.  Board parts are standard from the BOM  with extra attention paid to closely matching the parts.  Goldpoint controls, Vampire RCA's, SUMR transformer.  A big thank you to Kevin Gilmore for making this project possible!

  3. If what you mean by 'slipping' is a feeling of flex in the rods while turning, it depends.  On both a M3 build and an Aikido (picture below) there is no feel of flex when turning normally.  However, when going past the limits of the switches/volume control you can feel some flex.   The M3 has less flex than the Aikido due to it having shorter shafting, but not by much. I plan on using the same shafting when I finish casing my KSA4.

  4. A bunch of years ago, I was watching an episode of "Gomer Pyle" where he was tasked to do some cooking.  One of the items he prepared was bacon.  His method was simple, 1/8 tsp of sugar per strip.  I tried it and "surprise, surprise, surprise", it was awesome

  5. I went looking for a copy of Beethoven's Violin Concerto in my CD collection.  Didn't have one but found a copy of Beethoven's Piano Concertos  3 & 4 with Alfred Brendel at the piano and James Levine conductiong.   I am not going to call it my favorite but both were great!  I'll have to get a copy of his violin concerto mentioned by OP.

  6. Repaired my M&K  MX-125 subwoofer.  The thing kept blowing fuses sooooo I pulled the plate amp and the transformer.  Lucked out and found an internally shorted 10,000 uf cap right off the bat.  I replaced that one and the other 10 electrolytic caps while I was at it.  Works just fine now.

BTW: At the beginning of the week, before attempting a repair, I contacted M&K  to see if they could repair the amp.  Still waiting on a reply.  At the same time, I also contacted the transformer manufacturer (Paraline)  for specs and to see if they had a replacement version just in case mine was bad..  Another no reply.  You can bet that I will rember both companies in the future.

  7. I finally finished populating my amp board.  Went a bit nuts on component matching, resistors to less than .1% and transistors to less than 3%.  I wired up the boards and ran some square, sine, and triangle waves through it.  Every thing appeared perfect on the scope.  Bias was easy to dial in.  It was time for some listening.  I spent about equal time listening with my HD 600's and DT880's (600 ohm) and I have to say they both sounded great.   Everything from Gerswin to Joplin to Kodo...this amp does every thing right!   Next step is casing.
