  1. OCD .. Yeah. I know. It's totally illogical. I talk to my self too... ;-)
  2. That's an option too ... and they would certainly be counterpoint to the stats on my desk. My roommate has T1's and I quite enjoy borrowing them on occasion. Nicely colored and detailed and fun. Haven't spent too much time with the 880's but have read a lot about them ...
  3. That's interesting to me cause I quite liked the RS1's. But OCD wouldn't let me buy something numerically designated as "2" when there is a "1" option sitting next to it. Queer but true... I quite liked the RS1's, though ... just a tad nitpicky in the high freq area. Also why I enjoy the PS500's so much ... seems Grado really hamstrung the highs in the PS500 ..., which, though a tad unnatural, makes it a much more forgiving listen than the RS variants (or any other Grado for that matter...barring the PS1000). PS500 might be where I end up. ;-)
  4. Enough said, RE: HiFiman ... thanks for that. I have been eye balling RS1's .. true ... And they can be found for reasonable cost .. HMMMM.... I just can't get the Shure 1840's out of my craw. Anyone heard them? (I know your reading cause there isn't anything else new here) )
  5. I've spent quite a bit of time with the HD800 and it's just too approximate to the Stax cans I have. Not to mention the price tag... Don't get me wrong ... I was very impressed with the HD800's ... just not the "stax counterpoint" I'm shooting for with this budget, dynamic build. I'm looking for cans in the $500 and less range ... shopping mostly used on forums and what not. So far, I'm really intrigued by the HE-500's (which I've never heard) ... and also .. the Shure 1840's (which I've never heard) ... the Grado PS500's are a no brainer as I've borrowed Shelly's in the past and I quite like them as an all around, go-to can. But I'm intrigued by trying something new ... They both have qualities I appreciate ...
  6. Forgive me, Shelly. But I was just re reading this thread (because I'm narcissistic as all get out) ... and I could not stop myself from laughing madly at this. "climbups under the legs" ... LMFAO!@! The things folk have to go through! I never knew! Jeezus! Let's not meet for a while, then. Damn. LOL
  7. The latest addition to the desktop family; have to say .. that is a pretty machine. Now ... just what cans to get? Shit. :
  8. ... A really special album if one appreciates rich harmonies and meandering americana. I do. I've had the good fortune to be invited to shoot vid/rec audio for these guys on several occasions here in Houston and across the board, they are stand up folk. When I asked Ben (main singer/songwriter), after our initial shoot, whether he'd mind me posting the resulting content all about the intrawebz, he replied .. "No ... I don't mind at all; we tend to not be too protective of the things we make." And so our friendship was born... and I was completely down with the attitude. Anyway, they've released a couple other really excellent records ... but I haven't heard anything from them in some time. My suspicion is that they have had some member replacement issues... Here's them doing the title track from "Oh My God Charlie Darwin" ... a pretty neat live performance that I wish I'd shot (camera work is pretty good). Jocie is playing a really wicked percussion instrument called a Crotales ... also at times referred to as "Antique Cymbals." It's typically played with mallets of a sort but she uses a bow. Throughout "Oh My God" ... it creates a rather unique and lingering effect that really attaches itself to the record as a whole. ...
  9. It's extremely rare with mine. Not even enough that I would consider sending it back to Koss. ... just pops up all of a sudden and then disappears .. and even then, it's very very low volume and only noticeable on silence. I too am reminded of the RS1's a bit (had those for a few years) ... only without the nit picky/occasionally painful highs. I switch over to my Lambda 307's and after about half an hour I always end up putting the Koss' back on ... They might be a little plasticY ... but man are they light/comfortable. One can truly forget that one is even wearing cans some times ... I use them a lot when I'm doing visual design stuff for hours straight on the computer and I totally forget there's even headphones on my head.
  10. I only noticed a real sonic difference when pushing to insane volume levels ... otherwise, I'd be guessing if I said I noticed much more difference. I mainly got the 323S as an upgrade over the 252S on the chance I should move towards electrostat cans that were more difficult to drive ... as I'd read the 323S has more headroom in that regard. Maybe a tad more weight to the bass with the 323S as well ..
  11. One of my fav Aussie bands ever ... major play time from the mid 80's all the way up to current day.
  12. Seriously man ... I hope so. Cause the 950's are perhaps the best "all around" and still "audiophile" headphones I've heard. ] The whole "squeal" issue is so mysterious. Really, I can't replicate it. Fuck! In the past 20 hours or so of listening, I haven't heard it a bit. I'm listening with Koss 950 headphones and a Stax 323S BTW. Oddly, since the 323S amp has dual PRO biased headphone connections? I find that the Koss 950's work better when being the only headphone plugged in to the amp. No "squeal" issues. If I connect my SR-307's in the other socket? Then the Koss cans tend to give me problems. Now how in the feck does one explain that? LMFAO. But I've found a middle ground with them, so to speak ... and I think they are really good headphones. I agree ... Koss could "part the waters" if they set there minds to perfecting the ESP-950 ... Hope they do...
  13. I'm a noob to the stat thing ... sort of just feeling my way about ... but I really like the 323S amp that I've got ... That said? I'm lusting over the chance to hear my STAT cans with the Blue Hawaii amp ...
  14. I bought mine used off of amazon. The amp was whack ... really bad distortion in the right channel (not a "squeal" issue) I sent it back and they replaced about everything (according to their invoice). Now? The Headphones almost always work perfectly ... On very rare occasions .. be it a thing related to humidity changes (I live in TX and that is a constant influence) or otherwise ... occasionally, I will get a very low volume "squeal" in the right channel. It's not loud enough to hear when some loud music is playing ... but when things are silent, I can hear it and it bugs the shit out of me. LOL ... but it's seldom enough of a thing to be acceptable. Such a good headphone. Very natural and true ... and super good imaging (like speakers on your ears) ... but that's just my experience.
  15. And they beat every headphone I've ever heard with straight up, loud rock music.
  16. Yeah ... I like them more than the 307's ... just so easy. Personally, with both the 307's and the 950's, I EQ the mids down just a tad (the electrostat mid centric thing gets hard on me) ... but man .. they are just so smooth. And at the right listening level (IE>not too loud) the sound stage/image is very speaker like. And they are just so light weight. I'm totally stoked on them and haven't reached for the 307's in quite a while. The 307's win in regards to basic detail retrieval, though ... they are certainly the more analytic headphone. But the Koss cans are just so sexy with any music that comes up and they are by no means slouch when it comes to details ... just a tad rolled off in the highs compared to the Stax cans. Also, upon careful listen, the bass is quite a bit better than the 307's... Love em... I have a Stax adapter, Shelly if you want to borrow the Koss cans when we next meet (I need to borrow one/two of your dynamic cans when my Gilmore Lite gets here, trying to figure out what single dynamic can I want to invest money in) ... ) ... (long as there's no critters around, that is...)
  17. Super sick headphones (with the Stax 323S amp) ... So feckin' smooth ... Great headphones ..
  18. As rock albums go, this has been on the top of my list since around when it was released (1993 or so). Scenesters would call it "post-hardcore" or "post-punk" ... but meh ... The singer has such a cool, off-time, staggered sort of approach to lyric delivery... and overall the entire album is good (including a pretty rad cover of The Smith's "how soon is now." ... (minutia: it's a good record to test for sibilant issues with your gear as the highs are mixed just a little hot) ...
  19. ... (I forgot myself) ... ... There, that's better.
