  1. I like that AI AL is a two-fisted drinker in each version! Thanks for the good wishes everyone. I have had a good day and went out to dinner with friends and had cake back at home. Only one drink at a time, though.

  2. A couple of dinners this week. First, roast chicken and new potatoes on a bed of little gems lettuce.

And a pork cutlet rice bowl. I fried the cutlets normally with a light amount of oil then briefly fried them again in chili crisp.IMG_5120.jpeg

  3. Well, I did some reading and my birthday is coming up so Claire said we should go for the Piston Pro X. It's sweet. We have fenders and tail lights so I have to add extra straps just as belt and suspenders safety. It seems tight and stable without them but I used rubber coated giant twist ties that Steve used in his truck so I didn't need to buy $40 worth of Küat "fender kits" aka four velco straps.

One drawback is that the car considers this to be a trailer and defeats a bunch of features that would be missed on long drives. I'm going to figure out if there is a way to work around that.

  4. RIP Karen. May her memory be a blessing to you and Andrew and your extended family. I will be toasting Karen and your family with a manhattan, my dearly departed mother's favorite cocktail. Like Nate said, call any time if you need an ear on west coast time.

  5. I'm going to read more but when you are talking about security, are you referring to securing the rack to the car so it can't be stolen, or securing the bikes to the rack so they can't be stolen, or both? Or are you talking about keeping them secure and attached while driving?

I know a kid who worked at a local bike shop had his 1up stolen right off his car while working, so I guess that is at least something to think about with locking nuts or some such.

  6. That's a lot to combine in one tattoo. Are you looking for a band around your arm? Maybe make it chronological as it wraps around? I hope you pick the dead guy on ice in the hold to represent part of your fishing career!

It's been a long time since I was in the area we're staying this week, which is the Sierra foothills near Arnold and Murphys. It's got some goldrush charm left but wow there are a lot of bars, restaurants and wineries in these little towns now! Yesterday we walked through part of Calaveras Big Trees state park and it is aptly named.

These Giant Sequoias are quite different from the Coastal Redwoods near us in Mayberry. The sequoias are the world's largest trees by volume -- which is immense! -- while the redwoods are the world's tallest trees.

I failed to take pics of the gigantic stump near the beginning of the trail. Some assholes 150 years ago decided it would be cool to cut down the largest tree in this grove after it was discovered. The story is told in the plaque below but stump is still incredibly solid and people walk on it every day.
