25K volume pot for original Dynahi Ver. 1 question

Featured Replies

My original Dynahi built in 2008 is still going strong and sounds just a good as they day I finished it.  I replaced the 50K volume pot with a 10K as it should've been years ago.  I believe KG said 50 was to high.  With the 10K the amp sounds perfect but I think I've lost the use of the full range of the volume control.  I only use the first 25% now where I used to use up to 50% or more with the 50K.

Do you think it would be ok to switch to a 25K volume pot?

Assuming (there I go...) that the TAPER of the pot is the same, there should be no change in where the knob sits with a 10K, 25K, 50K, or any other pot.

Generally accepted best practice is to use the lowest impedance pot that your source can drive.

If your source cant drive 10Kohms (or even less) cleanly & with full bandwidth smash it up with a hammer* and buy something else.

*you could also just sell it, I guess.

I'm sure it's my ears lying.  I probably should have payed more attention.  10K was the recomended value so I'll leave it at that based on what nikongod says.

I think maybe I should lower the gain if the volume gets too high too fast correct?

As long as the amp stays stable (dyna{whatever} are very stable) yes, drop some gain and spin the knob higher :)
