Sennheiser HD580/600/650 Modification Tutorial

Featured Replies

I have a beyond super modded HD580 headphone cable and decided to share SOME of the mods on my site for free. I know some of these are already provided online on places such as head-fi, but I know for a fact the last part is not on head-fi or anywhere else.

If I had missed something or made a mistake somewhere feel free to let me know.

Thanks, that is really helpful.

But uh, be more specific about the back foam thing, at first I thought the white ring around the edge was what I had to remove and I accidentally poked a hole in it... I'm just one idiot though. :P

so what actually happens to the sound with all of the foam removed?

Thanks for that. My previous experiences removing the "normal" foam from the HD650 made the phone "grate" my ears, not unlike what every Grado except the GS1000 does to my ears.

And another thing: What are the sonic differences between the HD580, HD600 and HD650?

600 employs the same drivers as 580, but they are slightly better matched. Overall the 580/600 sound is drier, more neutral, and a tad sweeter in the highs then the 650. The 650 is darker and more lush with deeper and heavier bass.
