I never heard the 231, but I did like the 250-250. I'll be interested to read some impressions as this could be a nice bang-for-the-buck or gift can.

I've heard the 231's before at a meet and thought they were pretty decent. I remember the sound being balanced with no glaring faults. I always thought they were fugly though.

They're not fugly. Jesus, have you seen the Jecklin Floats? Or the Ergos? Or even the iGrados? These are black, normal looking headphones, nothing more, nothing less.

You're right, the Floats and Ergos are on a whole different level of fugly. However, I could never understand how they came up with the colors for the old DT231. It never fit amongst any of the line-ups.
