  1. Zu Cable will reterminate for a fee, which I believe is $40.

Stefan Audi Art will NOT reterminate. I was told the configuration of their balanced and single-ended Equinox cables is different, whatever that means.

As to which I prefer? Depends on the system. I have both balanced Equinox and balanced Zu Mobius. In that past, I have owned single-ended versions of both cables. I prefer the Zu Mobius with certain tube combinations and the Equinox with others. With the HR-2 and Prehead MK-II SE, I prefer the Equinox to the Mobius. The Zu is the more forward of the two and tends to go the Grado direction, whereas the Equinox enhances the sonic qualities of the stock cable without altering it that much. Pick your poison.

The stock cable is so close to the Equinox that it would be prudent to reterminate that to XLR before spending $$$ on a balanced aftermarket cable. If you are not the DIY type, I am sure you can convince our friend GE to reterminate your stock cable for a nominal fee ;) Once you hear the stock cable for a month, post what you like or don't like about it and we can talk about the next round of spending >:D

zu will reterminate the mobius for $40 + $10 return shipping.
  2. I wish it were that low... but unfortunately it's more like 2% to 4% depending on the transaction.

plus the like to charge a 2.5% fee for currency conversions between accounts using different funds.

the 3% fee is just plain annoying, but paypal is faster and more reliable than money order.
  3. Hmm, well even the best IEM's (and I've heard the UE10 and E500) don't do it for me as well as closed headphones do, as far as sound quality goes. I would only use IEM's where the isolation and/or portability are needed, even if I had the E500's (based on what I heard from them). Now I find Etys sound embarassingly bad, considering their price, and would frankly prefer to listen to HD201's, let alone the A900's. The Etys are the headphones, perhaps more than any other, for which I cannot understand how anybody likes them; between tons of sibilance, absolutely no soundstage, K501-like levels of bass, and no particularly good quality I can think of (other than isolation). I can see how folks like almost any other decent headphone, but the Etys just absolutely puzzle me.

yea the etys just sound plain unnatural. i found my UM2s and they will continue to serve me when i am flying with northwest, but my k81djs look better and sound more open.
  4. Sovkiller is a complete dickwad, I've lost track of how many times he's shit on cable threads, tube amps, power conditioning, and other things. He's ignorant, stubborn, hysterical, and loud-mouthed. I've had him ignore-listed for over 2 years now.

no shit, and he knows nothing besides the cd3k (and they are discontinued).
  5. its pretty easy to make a DIY hydra for like like 150 or so. 125 for a high quality BPT power strip, and maybe 15 bucks for some ac caps. or if you guys wanna go all out, get some ERS cloth, oyaide outlets and some good caps.

as far as i can tell the power cord between the wall and the power conditioner won't make a lot of difference so you can put a cheaper cord like an ebay zu over there without messing up the sound.

  6. I don't hear a negative difference, only positive with the P500. But based on what people say about the added impedence causing a loss indynamics power conditioners, shouldn't that be the case with power regenerators also? They to, have a great deal of power conditioning going on.

Maybe because the regeneration occurs after the filtering, this wouldn't be the case. The way I understand it...the PS Audio approach is to take the AC and convert it to DC and then go through 3 stages of filtering, and then it gets regenerated to an oscillating sine wave.

headphone amps don't really draw a lot of power so i guess we don't have to worry about power conditioners sucking the life out of the music. the lavry for example only draws like 12W or so, however power conditioning and power cords still make a difference to the sound IMHO.
