Uhh, I would rather pay for good than listen to something I hate....
ah! yes that's absoluty true but unless you hear you won't know
-
Mostly likely you will hate it but at least its free eh.
-
Didn't know about those or I could have waited but the A5X is probably my best audio purchase so far.
-
What an amazing album with great vocals for my psychedelic needs.

I must say I'm really surprised with their sound. The soundstage and immersion its something really weird in the good way. The stereo image is amazing when in the sweespot, it kinda feels like a headphone.
These are very detailed, the hights extend well but I can listen to them for hours and hours and never get ear fatigue. Maybe the most satisfying sound so far for me, including the headphones, I like it.

I think the foobar abx methodology is seriously flawed. Quickly shifting back and forth like that doesn't provide much of an opportunity to catch subtle differences.
I believe you tried an older version. It has 2 boxes that correspond to other 2 boxes(files). You can play the 4 boxes then guess which is which.

This should help to compare the different resamplers, sox is regarded as one of the best I think. http://src.infinitewave.ca/

Tmoney you may want try this for free:
http://www.soundkeep....com/format.htm
One thing that comes up repeatedly in discussions with other music lovers and audiophiles regarding CD vs. high resolution digital formats, is the fact that most folks have no means of making a valid comparison. Often, the high resolution version of a record is mastered at a different session, sometimes by a different engineer. At many so-called "format shootouts", one hears level differences, EQ differences, etc., making a true comparison of the formats impossible. Astute listeners realize these are comparisons of different masterings and not of the formats themselves. In an effort to provide some help, Soundkeeper Recordings is providing these samples from the same album, same mastering session, etc. A number of folks we know, who use upsampling devices to play back their CDs, have found these useful in illuminating the pluses as well as minuses of their upconversion, as they can now compare the results with a true high res version.
When comparing the files, be sure your system is not performing any sort of resampling and/or dithering to either one. Some will by default, either upsample the 16/44 or downsample and dither the high resolution version.
The numbered links below will each take you to a download page.
Downloads are zipped .wav files.

We invite you to join us in this evaluation of future consumer delivery formats. FLAC is a lossless encoding of WAV-files derived directly from our production original used for the SACD and Pure Audio Blu-ray. All resolutions and encodings are derived from the same original DXD source files. Please send us an e-mail and share your experience on your practical experience with these file formats. I’ve run a second blind listening test and can report the O2+ODAC held its own against the $1600 Benchmark DAC1. They both are audibly transparent.Claims aside with this specs for 100$/£ sounds like a nice deal.

Is there gonna be a new run any time soon ?
-
In my case I would only use it connected to the headphones from the PC hdmi so would be more user friendly. The guy says the toslink output doesn't bypass the effects since he used a perfectwave dac with him, mmm..
-
Thanks.
Not a very uplifting impression for sure .
This one has the HDMI input and it's firmware is upgradeable, the last one solved the preset issue it seems.
"For presets, PRIR and HPEQ files are automatically saved to non-volatile memory when loaded,
and preset erasures are also non-volatile. Parameters remain volatile until a preset is saved."
If there's no way of using the computer with the hdmi then it's mostly a no go, what a same.. but would you say the limitation of using its dac was noticeable ?
-
I recall some one who bough a smyth few months ago, Ric I believe, any impressions so far ?
There's one FS and I'm getting tempted but having only an HDMi input is really a killer.. Would work with the hdmi ouput from a videocard or I would need some sort of converter ?

Announce: Enhanced Digital Output app - USB Dac and 192k Digital Ouput
I've posted a new applet to the 3rd party apps list for Squeezebox Touch. This is designed to enhance the digital output capabilities of the device for use with external Dacs. It is based on the software which people have helped me test on the "Async USB Dac Experiments" thread but should now be suitable for less experienced users to install. The app should add support of the following to your Squeezebox Touch:- External USB dacs using either USB audio class 1 or 2 protocols [uSB 1 dacs normally state they support up to 96k sample rates, USB 2 dacs normally state up to 192k]- Support of 176 and 192k playback via the standard digital outputThere are a number of limitations to be aware of:1) USB 1 dacs which operate in asynchronous mode probably need an external high speed hub to work without "clicks" - this is due to what appears to be a limitation in the Touch hardware. It is completely resolved with a cheap (<$10) bus powered hub connected between the dac and squeezebox. There is a workaround option which works with some dacs if a hub is not used, but it limits playback to 44/48k sample rates. At present is has only been proved to work with Audiolab/Lakewest dacs.2) USB support does not yet support hot plugging of usb dacs - please connect your dac and leave turned on at present [this is likely to improve in future]3) 192k playback requires a dac which supports it and is only supported with flac files using native decoding at present. [in future 7.8 LMS and firmware should support 192k wav streaming] It will also require sufficient bandwidth on your network.4) Only one output can be selected at once, this means when a USB dac or the Digital Output are selected there will be no sound on the analog outputs. The app is called "Enhanced Digital Output" and is the main 3rd party apps list.To install, please following the following steps:1) Ensure your Squeezebox Touch is running 7.7.x or later firmware2) Go to Apps Gallery -> 3rd Party Apps on the touch screen3) Deselect the "recommended applets only" option, so that you see a longer list of apps4) Select "Enhanced Digital Output" and select it for installation5) Your touch should download the app, reboot, then download a new custom linux kernel and reboot again6) You should now get a list of possible output devices - this should include "Digital Output" and your USB Dac if it is plugged in, select the appropriate output7) Touch should reboot again and then be ready to start playing with the selected outputIf you want to change the output go to Setting > Audio Settings > Digital Output; if you want to change some of the advanced options go to Settings > Advanced > Digital OutputPlease note that if you perform a firmware update, then the app and kernel will need to be reinstalled, this should be automated just requiring you to install the app again or to have the "reinstall after update" option selected from the 3rd party apps list. Please post your feedback on this thread - I would like to create a list of USB DACs which are known to work with it, we started that on the experiment thread, but I think it would be cleaner to maintain a list here. -

^ What..!?

I share the same thoughts you do k3,although I didn't hear the 007 from any diy amp. I really liked the lcd2 tonality and for the used price was ok if it wasn't for the stupid headband system for such a heavy headphone which is unacceptable uncomfortable for something this pricey. Still waiting for a proper one.. which may not happen.

Is it too old school to use proper spelling, grammar and all that fancy book learnin' ?
(hmmf won't embed)Is it too old school to use proper spelling, grammar and all that fancy book learnin' ?
Thanks for the correction, I always mix those up..
Also, you have no idea what happened inside that squad car. She could have been spitting, biting or any number of things.
Right but before the tazzer they got things done. It can permanently injury or kill, this wasn't a dange situation and certainly shouldn't be used on some one that is going on a psychotic break.

What's up with cops now tazing everybody.. Can't they use their force to arrest an unarmed chick or its to old school?
Jazz recommendations please
