  1. Right now machines like the hurco and fadal can be had used with full warranty for something like 20% of retail. So many companies going out of business due to the economy, that there is a huge glut of these things. You can actually get stuff like this that will fit in a standard garage, and run on single phase for about $7k with a full set of tool holders for the tool bank and a number of different hold down bars and a massive vise or two. Then just add software, and any trained monkey can do this. I wonder if my friend in skokie is trainable?
  2. replication is a thing of beauty... http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/staxjack5.jpg 12 minutes of machine time per jack. Extra holes added specifically for luvdunhill
  3. I was trying to get cute. (meaning lazy...) I got it right on the 3rd try. Anyway http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/staxjack4.jpg I could make it bigger, and keep the rest of it the same size, but i'm not sure why i would want to. Then if someone really did want to put in a he90 jack, they would have to make a sleeve. As far as mounting them, i really was planning on thru holes. But i'll try some blind holes on test aluminum first to see if i like how much bite there is going to be. It would definitely look cooler to have blind holes. So far i have managed not to have any blind holes. The price is still going to be ugly unless luvdunhill comes thru with the pins on the cheap. Its really only about $5 in teflon per jack, plus machining time. Plus $19 for the octal socket to steal the pins from. It does not matter, i want it perfect.
  4. That is exactly what i'm trying to do right now. First two tries at replication ended up with the parts on top of each other.
  5. machined from a solid piece of teflon, will add the mounting holes tomorrow and make a batch. Hole diameter is 18mm which exactly matches the he90 jack so everything will be symetrical. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/staxjack1.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/staxjack2.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/staxjack3.jpg
  6. Its a baby's arm holding an apple... What do you want from life... The Tubes (painted about 25 years ago by a now famous artist) What Do You Want From Life, Tubes Lyrics The rca tube is a 7295B. Very rare.
  7. Jack has some new toys he wants to show everone.
  8. Warning, don't do this unless you know what you are doing. At one time i had a couple dozen of those. I take them apart for the laser diode, which on the creative phase rewriters are about 400mw... I make very dangerous laser pointers out of them. These days, i do the same thing with 1 watt green diodes.
  9. OH are you wrong. Thats the floor in my office. The living room floor is one inch thick solid oak. Scratching that would be a really bad idea. I'm a slob and i can prove it... (give me a few minutes to upload these gems) http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/mess1.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/mess2.jpg 14 mm rectilinear fisheye
  10. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/t2chassis22.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/t2chassis23.jpg I hate soldering these cables. 4.5 hours so far on the 3 of the 4 sets
  11. The input switch changes color when you push it in and out. (it actually does this mechanically) craig just loves to use antique parts that are generally not available.
  12. Doctor who, the end of the world part one and two. In HD.
  13. The TTVJ portable uses a switcher inside to run the output section at +/- 5 volts 3.29VRMS is 9.2 volts peak to peak which comes about as close as posible to rail to rail. Not sure what is inside the ALO, but 7.45 VPP is 2.66 VRMS
  14. Well i got drunk for breakfast. 1/2 bottle of champaigne and flambe pancakes with cointreau The dogs got some, they seem real quiet at the moment. Probably followed by dog barf soon
  15. Along came john and somethin' else just showed up. Going to go and listen now.
  16. 5600 cd's 1500 sacd's 1500 lp's 380 dvd's
  17. Thanks kerry, that is exactly what i'm looking for. I'll use normal stuff for the filaments.
  18. Anyone know of rational pricing on wire?? Want 11 different colors, each 20awg, 600volt or cable with 15 wires in it, each 20awg 600volt each amp would use about 10 feet total of 15 wires...
  19. RK50 FTW.
  20. Board set will be $160 total plus shipping.
  21. After the prototype is done and working, i will send 5 sets of chassis parts to be finished, then order some more front/back material as i only have enough of that for the first 8 units. If you want some other color than black, i can ship you the stuff unfinished and you can find someone to finish it to your liking. For those that want a jump start, i can sell board sets now... But really i don't need any money till i'm ready to ship stuff.
  22. power supply boards just arrived. and all other parts are on order (i think) (i certainly hope so)
  23. The boxes are 16.5 deep and 15.5 wide ! Bottom feet are at about 10 inches x 13.5 inches. When you see the power supply stuffed, you will know why it has to be this big.
  24. Front feet to back feet about 13.5 inches Chassis front to chassis back 16.75
  25. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/t2chassis20.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/t2chassis21.jpg as a tip of the hat to my friend mikhail, singlepower chassis screws temporarily holding in the neutrik connectors 6-32 screw goes into the keystone 7700 on the board.
