  1. playing around with the board for sorenb, i found that the right heatsink is not grounded. really should be grounded, best place is the ground on the power connector this probably means the original board has the same issue will update boards now
  2. fireproof cardboard box always works. way way way back when, i built a 1kw xenon strobe in a cardboard box...
  3. the cree part is a to246, so no. besides which people want to run at 20ma or more, and at 450V power supplies that is 9 watts no onboard heatsink I know of is more than about 4 watts
  4. chevy spark is a very cheap car... http://www.chevrolet.com/2016-spark.html
  5. all the new cars I know of play music right from your ipad or iphone. or a host of other digital devices. wired or wireless. and the 2016's come with Pandora and iTunes direct from the onstar box.
  6. I would have gone with the resistors I used for the 20 ohm, but that should work fine. pretty quick assembly.
  7. for the truly insane among you (birgir really wanted this) (work in progress) http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/ssdynalobalsmt.jpg
  8. well I do 10k, just because I don't want too many different versions in stock. but 50k or 100k works fine for this
  9. I do have 2 sets of the original boards with the mpsw parts if anyone is interested. also 2 sets of the unbal to bal boards, also with the mpsw parts.
  10. last set of boards is gone. power supply up next
  11. surface mount board finished and tested and bug free. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/dsc_0659.jpg there is one set of boards left if anyone is interested
  12. just imagine what that would cost if pete decided to sell it.
  13. birgir has the pictures ask him. major surgery moreso if you add the current sources
  14. another mikhail at work
  15. srpp, yikes. but that can be fixed in a few seconds. perfect for the circlotron power supply so i'm assuming the top tubes have seperate filament windings for all 4 tubes?
  16. no room, but 5.1 ohm resistors are available in 5 watt, so thats about 135ma updated picture, smaller for now, bigger later
  17. i have a .6T magnet on my desk at work. Very dangerous. charges steel tools in less than a second. that one looks like fun. my biggest nmr is 14T
  18. the idea with the new supply is to be able to supply more current for things like the megatron. so for the current limiter to work, that 10 ohm resistor would have to be something like 5 ohms. will look into it later.
  19. fixed the board and the schematic. the 100 ohm gate resistor is a cheat. that and the winding ground on the +/-15 so that it is easier for joamat to make a single sided board without any feedthru's but really the board should be double sided and plated thru holes.
  20. board picture updated, please check with this http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/goldenreferencehvsic.pdf
  21. so Kerry did the analysis on this, and his name is on the board, for the next version and I appreciate his help. This is a big deal because it has essentially 1 less stage, so it runs on as little as 50 volts unreg to reg, so it generates less heat. with 75 volts difference you can run 550V caps with 25V of margin at 450V output http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/kgsshvpssicnew.jpg 6.0 x 6.5 inches if I can just find a way to get rid of the one red, you could make this as single sided like some of the rest of the new ones.
  22. the holes are feedthru to the other side. the to92 are not the same pinout and those holes are very tiny and masked. could do the caps as surface mount, pick a package. the pots would end up the tallest item.
  23. I have had nothing but grief with the elma (dact) things. after a while the contacts go high impedance. same as the khozmo.
  24. missing 4 parts. I hate it when that happens, shipping costs more than the parts I should just buy 5000 pieces of every single resistor I use...
