if i wasn't broke
-
Berkeley has been in the lower 80s lately.... and dipping into the 60s in the night. but my place is always around 75ish... due to two factors: the way it's built and my zana deux at night.
-
a comedian made fun of me on a webcast today...
but, wow. come one... just one autograph?
-
Where do I plug the 6su7, into the Zana or the SDS? I'm really clueless here
The Tung Sol rectifiers are what I received with my Zana - they have "322PK3" and "Made In the U.S.A." printed on 'em.
I've been meaning to pick some of those 6BX7's up; I'm likely to pull trigger any day now...
Dan, that sounds great, hope it materializes! Can't wait to hear about it.
tung sol 6su7, black glass brown/maroon base tube goes into Zana Deux.

Hrm again its a question of what you mean by transparent. Transparent as in frequency response passes through it uncolored, transparent in relation to the recording? Or transparent to the original musical experience? I don't think tube amps in general test very well compared to a well designed/built solid state amp. I think with particular tubes you can make a Singlepower amp about as transparent as your standard manufactured amp can be. I would think at least on par with the Zana Deux if not possibly more so with some of the more high end ones (Apparently Maestro actually does have a significantly different topology compared to the SDS which surprised me... this is kind of a tangent but apparently a Maestro is more detailed sounding/transparent/clear compared to a SDS which will have better tone/musicality).
I always heard the maestro be be rather un-transparent, (at least at the national). I liked the extreme better for that purpose.

6SU7.... 6su7.... 6sU7.... 6Su7....
btw: tung sol rectifiers?? where'd those come from...
-
congrats on joining the club! it's a great amp. um... what input is that?
please take more pictures...
WOw, that's a great speaker set up.
and.... I really want that faceplate... i guess I'll have to wait (Asr has my faceplate from the Saturday meet).

NoCal the forgotten California
I'm listening to my K1000 on a truly ghetto-tastic rig. The line out of my M-Audio Transit to my Melos to my Pass Labs amp. I miss my DAC already.
eh, i'm listening to cheap M-audio Dx4 speakers connected to my laptop (i'm moving tomorrow so the rig is packed up).
so what happened to your dac?
-
eh.... i stopped listening to those K1000s after a week of speakers.
but congrats, that's got to sound awesome.
but what's the deal.. did you get a new place? that ain't look like your old desk.
jpak: it aint' hot in berkeley, that's for sure.

Hi
I bought a Denon D5000 from Mike. It was fast, easy and he shipped it in condition worthy of uranium.
-
I have a tendency to shoot only two types of shots:
1. lots of people, indoors and outdoors
2. short distance landscape-architecture like stuff,
I've not really used shots beyond 100, or have rarely done so.

Hello
I was lucky enough to get skyline's D20 for only 500$ (thanks! great deal). The deal is that so far i've only owned film SLR cameras and, as I understand it, my current lense won't work for this camera.
Since I'm pretty much flat broke, I really can't stretch beyond like 300$...so here is the question. What do you camera-junkies consider a decent all-around lense for such a camera? Thanks
-
I don't.
ignorant fool! go back to Head-fi!
j/k
-
I doubt there isn't anyone in here who doesn't already know how they sound. I appreciate your enthusiasm.
-
I came back home today... opened some boxes and found:
1. One GE input tube for my Zana
2. Two Tung Sol 6su7 tubes for my Zana
4. Four Miles Davis CDs
5. One Denon D5000
-
No, billy's actually right on this one. I don't like the whole RSA+cyro$$ dock+imod shit... that's what bothers me more than anything else. That and the sound of the apache... (not the B52, i really like the B52)

HE90 is the prettiest
Sony 010 is the coolest
-
YEY, he's back!
do get the first watt at least.
as for the accuphase.... does it have digital in?
-
maybe.... but I don't want to get in a bidding war with our ivory toothed friend... cause I'm looking at the Supra XLR and waiting...
Seriously, all those headphones would do great on the ZD... and use the pre amp out to an F1- for the K1000= world class sound.
-
exaggerated claims is what makes HC fun... check out the recent pissing contest between sacd_lover and 909!
and I stand by my claim, (at least until the next time I hear it) it can't do a damn thing right....
kitaoji, if you're around I'd like to hear it.
w5000 mafia: tell me what to listen to, on what gear, and what to listen for. and I promise i'll give it an open mind and a good listen. if it still sucks, i'll go right back to bashing it.
Humanflyz: while you're on this thread... I'm out of LSAT practice books (finished them) and would like some more. Barns and Noble closed while you were gone... know of any other place around town that might have them?
-
and who said I'm hating them? (they just don't get over 3 minutes listening time when I'm around) (i never was able to figure out what exactly those cans excelled in).
what a welcome... he comes here and says hi. we admire his source, his cans... and then tell him to upgrade his amp... nice.
-
LOL, now you are just being an ass.
we're on the wrong side of the tracks here... you're being too nice for these parts of town.
and yea, l3K and R10... seriously, consider buying that supra xlr in the fS forum.
-
there are many things that could be done to improve the w5000's sound: silver cables, open enclosure, driver replacement, the trash can, and the FS forum.
-
Why would keep an amp with an output impedance that is SO horribly mismatched with the impedance of the W5000s?
because serious distortion is just what the w5000 needs.
