  1. The pico might actually be a contender in this category, at least that's from what I heard from peter, whom i really trust. I'm gonna get a chance to hear it soon, so i'll post how that goes.

synergy does play a role, but even in any particular rig the basic performance patterns of each dac are clearly going to show. a bright dac (dac-1) isn't going to become warm or smooth, neither is something like the lavry suddenly going to become the fastest, swiftest, most airy dac out there with cables/power or what not.

thought: going in one sonic direction is not necessarily a bad idea. With the GS-X/Benchmark/all silver cables i got one of the best soundstage, speed, impact rigs i have ever heard. it was out right amazing, and i didn't feel it was seriously lacking in midrange (as i would have previously thought it would).

  2. god i love college football

    heck yea!

    1. the curse of number 2 continues, will West virginia survive one week?

    2. There is talk, possibilities, and all because Georgia could go to the bcs and possibly the title game, without winning it's division or conference!

    3. there is still a very real scenario that UCLA could end up in the rose bowl (good grief!)

    4. the big game (cal and Stanford) is actually important because it decides if cal goes bowling or not.

    5. Tennessee wins in 4x overtime and LSU loses in 3x overtime: epic

    6. where will hawaii end up

  3. I'm one of those thats not a big fan of the DAC-1 but you won't find anything thats clearly superior for the same price.

the VDA-2/vac-1 is clearly superior for the same price ;) ... I would also put the stello da100 and the Monarchy M24 on the better side of this category.

had the DA-10, it was cool, i'd buy what it does well, but it's a little lacking in the details, soundstage, and treble extension.

I have itunes as well and i usually connect things through an external hard drive (you can set itunes to burn directly onto that other hard drive, in my case it's set a drive "M" (for music)). I basically put into my ipod lossless files. the better option would be to double rip and have like 2 versions of the same cd, and move the lossy to a folder directed to the ipod, while the lossless says nice. As i understand, iron_dreamer's, method would be a headache for itunes users, as least if you're one of those people who updates it all the time because of podcasts, like me.

  4. I can't fucking believe this. my roommate walked in, freaked out and made me throw the whole thing away and clean the whole kitchen up. >:( >:(>:(

fyi, i picked off a piece of the turkey and it was delicious... too bad it was out the door.

  5. It takes some effort to make an amp that sounds outright offensive, although some succeed. Nowadays, it isn't very difficult to make amps since there are ICs available that do most of the work for you and a wide variety of designs published for public consumption. Really, the concern here is relative performance of course.

Shiki - K701 is the headphone I use for basically everything, as I'm rather fond of it. I personally like how it pairs with the GS-1 and GS-X, although that's with my other gear. I can imagine with some of the sources I've heard in head-fiers' stashes that it wouldn't be such a happy pairing.

fyi. your 701 isn't exactly normal, most people need warmth with theirs.

  6. :police: Who said John gets to host that meet? :police:

I have some ideas of my own and they don't involve San Leandro. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but hey, there are other locales to check out. Also, I have a trial that month and it would be nice to avoid February 16-25 unless that jacks up your availability.

so what are you thinking (out of curiosity, has there ever been a meet in The city?)?

  7. Or...it's not necessarily the best there is...maybe for most, but not everyone.

A few people have the sold it for a k1000 system and never looked back.

yea, but most of us have yet to get a good listen to some of those god-like K1000 rigs. even this past meet was too noisy to really get an impression of what the zanden sounds like.
