  1. Thanks Deepak. I need to hear this stuff. I'm likely not buying until the end of the year so I probably should spend some time looking at LBS's to see what is available. I am all over the place with this stuff and need to focus. I'm still waiting to hear from DeSalvo about possibly switching the bike I have on order to either a Ti hard tail or suspension (650).

A DeSalvo 650b would be hot! Do you mean hardtail (with front suspension), I do not see a full suspension on their page.

I am going to see if Intense offers any discounts next off season (my guess no), if not then it will probably be Rocky Mountain Altitude or hope that Specialized announces one in their Stumpy FSR line.

  2. It has good components. But this is my 2c- I would personally spend an extra $500-700 to get a similarly (or more likely a better spec'ed) big brand bike from an LBS with the off season discounts on 2012 models. You will get a lifetime frame warranty as well as support if stuff breaks. Think of the times you have had to get help from your shop with a road bike then compound that many times since the mtb will be getting dumped/seeing rougher terrain/etc. Also Airborne aren't without their teething issues like tire clearances on the rear bracket, etc. I could deal with that stuff on a sub $800 bike, but not more than that.

I've seen great deals on Treks, Giants and Specialized bikes from 10-25% off that I would take over that Hob.

Not a Huffy hater, I'm thinking about riding a Guardian for one season until 650B makes its way to the big brands.

I just looked at Airborne's page with the bike comparison. The Airborne is actually about $1870 once you pay for shipping. Besides not being a fan of the colors Trek uses on their bikes I would take the Trek Superfly over the Hob (then replace the tires on it), especially if they can be had for ~ $2000.

  3. I first saw it at a party. Made me go WHAT. Later that night someone shot the screen with a BB gun (without a silencer), drinking + guns =...

I am surprised it is so popular. It's a hella strange film.

  4. Just got Todd's TTVJ newsletter, some info in it on vinyl selling. The good news is the sale, the bad news is he'll no longer carry vinyl!

    Didn't know Todd sold music!

  5. my dad and i ended up at home depot today. he went to look at the traeger with me and enjoys slow cooked non beef meats as well (he is a devout hindu). he reasoned that for us it just wasn't the right time to purchase it as neither him nor i are home enough to justify the purchase even if the stuff cooks/tastes better. we took your suggestion naaman (and steve) and after comparing it to the other offerings found the charbroil grill to be the sturdiest. we got the 2 burner one and I think the indirect contact with the flame works out well for me and there is the provision for adding wood chips for smoking which we also purchased. Hopefully going to try the grill tonight and see how it turns out. don't expect anything amazing the very first time as i am not familiar with the grill and how long it will take to cook stuff but any suggestions from those using it are welcome.

    thanks for the help everyone.

Hehe a devout Hindu eating meat :)

No offense meant, I myself am a bad one that enjoys the flesh and fat :P

  6. Unfortunately, doesn't look like 180/200g.

IMO this doesn't effect sound quality much or at all.

The worse part is the vinyl is just mastered from the RVG CDs. Someone verified that with the Capitol mastering engineer a few years ago.

  7. I still really like my Aleph-P as well. I always kept the gain controls turned down as far as I could based on something I thought I read from Nelson recommending that. I may have to play around with them based on your impressions deepak.

I may have to get into mine a bit this winter as I think when I tried input 4 it wasn't working.

I think I prefer it with these speakers since they are a bit too linear (maybe even shelved down) in the midbass, and I like it more fleshed out for double bass. With some Blue Note recordings, the bass is recorded in too low volume and can be hard to follow with them.

With full range speakers I'm sure passive mode is the way to go.

  8. maybe one to consider:

(oh and while you are there.... http://www.audiohobb...pass-sit-1.html)

    Very nice :)

Looking forward to seeing what other preamps people come up with. 17 dB of gain is just too much for my system.

As I continued to read the Preamp Cookbook for the RTP3 I realized it was basically a preamp for the phono-stage (and not too surprising since Allen wasn't a big fan of digital). With a bonus line-stage. The single ended and balanced inputs for the non-phono inputs are attenuated even before the stepper. So much gain.

  9. I've had the Aleph P for a while now and this is so far the best preamp that has come into my house, and I've had my friend's fancy EAR on loan (and GS-X). I think I will get a Dartzeel some time in the future since it is the other SS pre I loved the sound of (and it can accommodate 2 phono carts). But for now while I am still in resident-ville, I am loving the A-P.

This might be all in my head, but I prefer to turn up the gain controls and lower the volume since it sounds a bit fuller that way.
