  1. You don't take stereophile seriously do you?

Mainly read it for fun. I'm aware of their bias.

The Benchmark DAC1 is an excellent DAC. Someone in headfi did an A/B comparison between DA10 and DAC1 and he said the differences were very minute. People seem to have their mind made up on it based off what just others say.

To me the DAC1 isn't very far off from my Bel Canto DAC2. Maybe ever so slightly a tad brighter...but would I be able to tell them apart in a blind test? Probably not.

Except it has been zhalou owners that have made such grandiose claims.

Seriously. The claims Ori makes are ridiculous.

  2. One thing I'm curious about for those who have had Bel Canto digital sources in the past: does Bel Canto have a "house" sound so to speak?

I wouldn't say so. I don't have a lot of experience with high end DACs but to me the DAC2 doesn't place emphasises on any frequency.

I'm still waiting to get the Lavry DA10, I could then do a comparison

  3. That's because they are all using Zhaolu, which is the BEST EVAR!!!!1111

    ^__^

(not me I dodge chinese hifi)

what about a 2 box cd player like the resolution audio opus 21 that has digital in? :)

So far the Opus 21 is the best CDP I've heard. I prefered it to the Meridian 588.

Someone at the Boston meet said he tried the digital in from his computer (not sure what soundcard) he said it sounded great but not as good as the CD transport.

  4. Is that a good thing?

I have no idea, I've never heard any of the eggos. A lot of people like them at Headfi, the MDR-D66 is quite famous. I think the appeal is that it's a cheap sealed (foldable?) headphone that usually priced at around $100.

  5. i actually find the coloration to be refreshing. :) it takes me a couple minutes to adjust when going from the HP-1000 to the RS-1s (and from the RS-1 to the HP-1000), but once i adjust i get very into the sound.

What headphone excels with what music? Or do you just like the change for everything? (i have never heard the HP-2)

  6. Don't know if this counts as a myth, but I get annoyed to no end whenever I hear "you are not really a music-lover if you don't have X number of CDs/LPs and go to Y number of live shows per week." That really pisses me off.

Oh, here's another one: Grado headphones match well with the RA-1 :mikey2: :mikey2:

Whats bad about the RA-1, I've never heard one.

  7. J-Pak, you've heard both the K1000s and the O2+KGSS combo, which one has more impact?

Dude the K1000. By far. K1000 has some of the best impact I've heard in a headphone; and I listen to them about 1.5 cm toed out.

The Omega 2 felt like it had more impact than my STAX SR-404, but the SR-404 was a little tame.

  8. I prefer every other AT. I've only heard the A500, AD2000, W5000, W11jpn and L3000. The L3000 is super bass heavy, doesn't have the soundstage and imaging of the other ATs, slightly recessed midrange and a grainy treble. Being made out of the most luxurious leather is all it has going for it imo

edit: sorry Reks I didn't see your post.

  9. It sounds so good out of a good amp and source (ppx3-slam nos tubes), but at the same time so good even out of a simple circuit portable. So sweeet with Clapton Unplugged, no harsh treble at all.

Does anyone know what Powermax (if thats the name of the company) was selling them before the drama bomd ensued?

    edit: $530

  10. Montoya is going to Nascar...

This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in F1 in my being a fan of 4 years. A South American F1 driver going to one of the worst motor sports on the face of the earth.

And is Button's Williams contract ever going to go through :mikey2:
