i'm on a roll... the kgsshv
Congrats! What was or were the earlier problem? Can you post pictures? This is where many would like to know what the potantial problem(s) is/are so that we can keep them in mind when doing our future builds. Grateful if you can share.

John, will this change be for existing amp or are you building a completely new one? Grateful if you could let us know your procedures and being our first to experiment. Infact, I had earlier asked Kerry about it but then decided not to proceed with it as I did not want to screw around with a working amp. I have a second one, off board, I am working on so I might be tempted to do it though.

Are you saying that the board is defective? If not, have you found any reason for the short yet?

What would be the difference in terms of sound performance? Any changes need to be made at the amp side?

The ultimate DIY? A Stax SRM-T2!
I just tested mine that came from bdent and it reads almost the same (ie. 1000v+ v(br)) . My conclusion is that they are real.

Congratultions. What volume pot are you using?

Now for something different...
What about 300B Kevin? The 2A3 outputs about 3w and the 300B at 9w. Would this make it a better candidate? 211 are going to costs if the number of tubes are the same as in the Megatron. And yes, I agree with nattonrice about the glare and also that it will give us a "free suntan" each time it is turned on.

I think 475v and 476v isn't too bad especially when both sides are almost identical. It may be a bit off your intended 500v, but with lower voltage you get a slightly higher current which may not be a bad thing after all. I would rather leave it alone instead of ploughing through the boards desoldering the parts and messing things about. If the experts feel otherwise, please correct me.

Stax Teflon Jacks - More of them
Nice, but how does one fit it to the face plate as all the mounting holes are taken up by the pcb? Even better if the boards were labelled.

Infact I did run this dual mono thingy by Kevin some time ago. He probably thought that I was a bit mad and by way of his "medicinal cure for me" he siad it was way over kill for a headphone amp but that it was ok for a speaker amp. I was cured and did not proceed with the dual mono idea. But I think the medicinal effect is not permanent, and I feel that my madness is coming back. Not only for the KGSShv but hopefully for the megatron as well. Infact the dynahi I am building now is dual mono. Do I really want to be cured or can I be?

Was ebay informed about it? What type of feedback was given?

The ultimate DIY? A Stax SRM-T2!
Thanks for the info Birgir. We all need to make our informed choices dont we. One wrong part will take many good parts with it. And its not the price of the available parts that I am too worried about, but sometimes its the costs of shipping and the rare parts being taken down as well..

Mikhail must have bought those more than 10 years ago. That is real foresight if he had investments in his mind. Outperforms many other forms of investments and they don't have to be fed as well. Under the bed will be a good enough storage. People like us who really need them today will have to pay the much higher prices unfortunately.

The ultimate DIY? A Stax SRM-T2!
Shipping rates to Singapore is not cheap either. Works out to be US10.50 per piece if I buy 1 lot with the cheapest shipping. Of course, buying more will bring the rates and price per piece down. This also assumes they are real. Compared the pictures to the ones got from bdent at hand, as mentioned by Justin, they do look real.

Stax Teflon Jacks - More of them
Got mine in the post today. Pretty fast delivery, less than 10 days, having to travel across half the globe. The work is nice and the tightness is perfect. Thanks Justin for both the beautiful work and for the trouble to include the instructions.

I wounld not worry about it. He can go quite for a while sometimes and then he comes back with replies. I think he has school exams too.

HeadAmp - Parts Division
Amb doesn't sell them to outside builds anymore due to global shortage. I believe bdent is only for matching of 2sk170 to 2sk74.
-
HeadAmp - Parts Division
Will you match them and sell it to us? I will need 5 quad sets of 2sk170bl and 2 quad sets of 2sj74-bl.
-
HeadAmp - Parts Division
Nice idea Justin . As regards semiconductors, this will be really helpful hopefully to solve the problems of fake and/or difficult to get parts. Can you let us know the list of semi-cons you intend to offer or do you want postings of what is needed or both? Will there also be matching services offered?

Megatron Electrostatic Headphone Amplifier
Why not lets have it all (ie. CCS and the DACT)? Makes the boards bigger but .... after all its a "Megatron" .
-
Megatron Electrostatic Headphone Amplifier
I can feel the sense of excitement. Will the DACT or other attenuators be incorpotated as an option in the boards?
