  1. That's what I originally did. I've basically done it "both ways" now so something has to work for me eventually.
  2. I don't think I've seen anyone yet get an email confirmation from Sennheiser for registering but I could have missed it.
  3. I did re-register yesterday with the number on the headphones. Your site asks for six digits so I put the extra 0 in the front of the figure on the headphones like the other poster suggested. So now I've done it both ways.
  4. Which is probably what I should have done. Oh well...
  5. This is really dumb and I'm not sure if it matters or not but here goes: When I registered my headphones on the Sennheiser site, it made very clear that it wanted a 6 digit serial number. The serial number on my headphones is 5 digits. There was a 6 digit serial number on the box and that's the one I used despite that number being different from the number on the headphones. Any big deal? Incidentally, I haven't seen a peep yet from Sennheiser confirming that registration. I registered mid day last Friday.
  6. Haven't seen or heard anything like that on my end and I'm pretty sensitive to that sort of thing. I also think the build quality on these is excellent.
  7. For the most part, yes. And you have to really do insanely stupid and reckless things that no one does to get burn-in or image retention.
  8. Lots of good ideas and recommendations in this thread. I'll just give you something to chew on: Plasma technology fully came of age a couple of generations ago. A lot of the things you hear now are just left over FUD and paranoia. You can buy a plasma with confidence and simply use common sense like you would with anything else or any other TV and you have nothing to worry about. I much prefer plasma over LCD for picture quality although LCD continues to make nice strides. If you buy a good plasma from Samsung, Panasonic, or Pioneer you have no worries. Quick example of what's out there right now from Panasonic, who is pretty much the torch bearer for plasma now: Amazon.com: Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV: Electronics This is their brand new 2009 G10 series of plasmas. That's a 50 inch screen of kick ass quality. Add to cart...price = $1469. That's insane. Good luck finding me something better with that size screen anywhere close to a price like that. Price too high? Amazon.com: Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P46G10 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV: Electronics Here's the 46 inch version of the same TV: Add to cart, price = $1288.45 Still too much? Amazon.com: Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P42G10 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV: Electronics 42 inches, same series: Ready for this?...$999. That's madness. So with at least the 42 and 46 inches you get great quality and stay within your budget. So even if you aren't as "anal" about video as say... me ... you can still do REAL well by yourself if you decide to consider plasma. These days, there's no good reason for someone in the market for a TV to rule out any technology. LCD and plasmas both have their strengths and weaknesses but they are both fully viable and you can buy either tech with full confidence. If you go to last year's models you're into the PZ800u series, PZ850u series and those are also excellent on mad sales just about anywhere right now. I would walk into stores and those Panasonics always stood out to me vs. any other TV even from across the entire store. I've bought electronics through Amazon before and it's a very well run operation. No sales tax, either and you don't get raped on shipping charges. They're about as good as it gets for online. Since Amazon is well known and authorized, a place like Best Buy WILL price match and compete with them if you show them proof, which is easy to do. These TVs are on sale pretty much everywhere at this point that you can buy good electronics. The other Panasonics you were shown earlier in the thread are also very solid. IMO...the best bargains for performance and quality are easily on the plasma side although LCD is making strides in that area. Bottom line: There are ways to meet your budget and still get really good quality if you don't rule out plasma.
  9. That sounds about right. For me personally, about 5 minutes or so is "quickly." I knew in about that short amount of time that I had something pretty special on my hands.
  10. Wrenched the left side of my neck out pretty good yesterday moving some furniture. Kind of in a haze today thanks to this damned muscle relaxant, but at least it works. A nuisance vs. being something that could have been a lot worse. It'll heal fairly quickly. Most of my free time sees the Sennheiser 800s on my head. They're incredibly comfortable and they just sound so damned good that I really need to take more breaks although I probably went through about 3 straight hours of listening to various things yesterday and never had the first sign of listener's fatigue. I see me dozing off with these on my head and some music running today thanks to the aforementioned muscle relaxant.
  11. As was I and quickly, which kind of surprised me.
  12. Good for you! I hope that streak of satisfaction never comes to an end. Just the audio and the headphone stuff, right? I can tell by looking at your sig that you certainly do not take that attitude when it comes to audio. Unfortunately for my wallet...I'm both a bit of an audiophile and videophile. D'oh! Anyways swt61: At the end of the day, if you know the budget you want and your eyes like what they see and your confident in the purchase you want to do? More power to you. Hopefully I gave you a little something to chew on before finally pulling the trigger. Best of luck! P.S. Buy the Oppo.
  13. You don't have to read the whole thread and some of the things that happen with a lot of TVs out there are readily apparent. I linked to those threads for quick skim reference. They're the closest thing to "man on the street" that I know of.
  14. A nice choice but I actually bought a Pioneer 111FD back in November.
  15. A serious difference in overall quality and reputation. You get what you pay for. I know that Vizio is number two in sales behind Samsung now but there's only two reason for that: They're cheap and Sony dropped the ball on themselves. Normally I'd be recommending Samsung and Sony depending on who has what but Sony really dropped the ball with LCDs this past year. We'll see if they get their act together with the next batch. Depends on your criteria. If all you care about is "I want the biggest screen I can get for as cheaply as I can get" with no other considerations whatsoever then buy the Vizio. No one is going to beat them on cheap. I'd caution you that there's a reason it's that cheap, but it's up to you. Vizio SV470XVT review - TVs Reviews like these should make you at least take pause. Vizio SV470XVT Flat-panel TV reviews - CNET Reviews ^^ They were a little nicer but there's some things they mention that I personally would never tolerate in any TV at any price. If you're willing to spend a little extra for much improved quality across the boards then I'd recommend something to you like the Samsung LN46B650 or LN46B750 easily. Or even the B550 series. Look these sets up and read some reviews. You should also go to a store where the TVs you are interested in are sold and demo them as best you can. Take the TV out of torch mode when you do it. If a sales person doesn't let you do at least this, walk out of that store immediately. Here are the owner's thread on AVS about the Samsungs and the Vizio you are interested in. It won't take you long to skim these threads and get a real feel for these TVs. The owners of a given product will give you a nice feel for what you're in for. Very useful. Official Samsung LNXXB650 Thread - AVS Forum Samsung B650 series Official Samsung LNxxB750 Owners Thread - AVS Forum Samsung B750 series If the budget really is tight you could even go down to this series: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1126988 Samsung B550 series And so on. You get the idea. Vizio XVT Series (SV470XVT & SV420XVT) - AVS Forum The Vizio series you cited. Vizio SV470XVT1A There's some things mentioned in that thread that, again, would make me take pause but that's up to you. Before you have a heart attack over the price difference...yes, it's worth it and depending on where you shop there's usually some pretty incredible deep discounts on most Samsung products. If you can't afford it...save up until you can. You'll be a lot happier in the long run. These new Samsungs are way ahead of the Vizio and technology and will give you a much better picture quality across the boards. Again, it's really up to you and your criteria and your budget. Personally, you couldn't pay me to take a Vizio product. They're not "Made in the USA" either, so don't fall for that lie. I would recommend you do some research and consider raising your budget so you can jump past Vizio and do right by yourself. Wait and save if you have to. It will be well worth it to you in the long run.
  16. I don't promise you miracles but I very seriously doubt you will be disappoionted.
  17. I hope through all that mess some of us have been able to give you at least some kind of ballpark frame of reference about these headphones by now.
  18. Which is why I quickly gave up on the thread over there except for me throwing Monkey a quick bone just now. As a Sennheiser 800 owner, I can't agree with you more on all of your points here at least in regards to how they sound and what you get for the money.
  19. I would recommend Samsung over Vizio easily if you intend to buy an LCD. It really is especially with the 30 days "no questions asked" return policy. You lose the shipping costs and nothing else. No restock fees. http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-83/ I'd say if anyone even has a casual interest they should register at the link I posted and don't be surprised if they get one of those early invite emails. The "official" mass street release for this unit is rumored to be anywhere from June to all the way in sometime in August.
  20. I'm not close or in the know on a lot of this stuff like you guys are but I float around enough over the last few years to simply be stunned speechless at that entire situation. What in the blue hell happened? I remember a couple of years ago even that there were complaints about lack of communication and huge gulfs of time before people saw their products, but to come to this? Wow. This has been a fun thread to browse. French fry pizza...yeah, I could do that.
  21. I can't answer that directly although I can say Dan and Modwright have a stirling, non snake-oilish reputation. The easiest way to get down to it would be to go ahead and register at that forum I linked you to. It's free and it's a pretty darned good audiophile forum. From there, you can pretty much look through that entire thread, which includes pictures, and fire off any question to Dan directly right there on the boards. You'll see in that 5400 thread that it gets partially sidetracked with Oppo BDP83 talk. Dan's going to be doing some nifty mods for that unit as well.
  22. I was hoping it was in the first post. I could try and ask them in the thread. I know that a lot of the hardware comes from a Chinese OEM named BBK, if that means anything to you.
  23. Damn it. Summary: Modwright - Elegance. Simplicity. Truth. ^^ He's doing a bunch of great solid state and tube mods if anyone's interested. Dan's one of the best out there. The details are in that thread but you have to register on the forum to see it apparently.
