  1. 5.1 Headphone experience *Foobar configuration for all stereo music files* - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio Sorry if the H-Scroll is a little off here. I hope this isn't bad form for me to post in regards to a thread at Head Fi like this and someone else's work but I certainly give Graphicism at Head-Fi full credit for this and if he posts here under a different screen name than kudos. I wanted to post this here just to match notes with the regulars around here and see if anyone else has tried this and what they think of it up or down. I went into it skeptical just because I tend to be pretty leery about post processing and other "tricks" in these kinds of situations but I'll be damned if I'm not impressed with how this sounds.
  2. I still am keeping an eye out for this piece. I keep seeing conflicted word about this either shipping in February at some time or the more vague "unavailable" without any firm date at all. In the event that this gets delayed for a long time, what other similar kinds of pieces in and out of the Squeezebox line handle 24/96 like this will supposedly do and can be integrated into a sound system. All I care about is something that handles just about anything I can throw at it and integrates. Everything after that from touch screens on is bonus.
  3. Well, all of my gear and PC are together in the same room so I suspect that simplifies things considerably. Whatever Squeezebox solution I bought would be connected to the aforementioned Cambridge 840c's DAC, so obviously something like the Transporter would be major overkill. I'd connect it via ethernet cable right to the router. The Touch seems awfully nifty and compelling on paper. I'd want to access the music on my PC and off of it. I'd like to be able to enjoy the music without necessarily having to have my PC turned on to do so.
  4. Dumb question: If I'm coming in fresh and new to the whole Squeezebox thing, is the Touch something I can use by itself or do I have to have another Squeezebox to use it off of? I guess what I'm really asking is: If I want to dive into this, I'd be using the DAC on my Cambridge 840c. What should I buy?
  5. As am I. I respectfully repeat my request to please let me take a look at some kind of empirical data and such so I can get into this concept of power cables improving soundstage, speed, and other sound quality factors like that. (I also know that there are equivalent claims on the video side.)
  6. FWIW: I'm always open to empirical data and research.
  7. Somewhat skeptical of all of it, certainly skeptical when I see things like $1499 Statement One power cables and the like. I understand the difference between a crappy cable and what that can mean generally vs. a quality cable but honest to goodness I really just start scratching my head and become very skeptical and leery when I see 3 feet power cables for $1500 and such and see the marketing claims out there for these sorts of things.
  8. Black Sand Cable Power Cords *gasps* Consider me HIGHLY skeptical of this sort of thing.
  9. Sounds great. I love my 800s. I was in the first batch of preorders. I was coming off of recabled AKG 701s which I thought were pretty good but I can tell you that I could never go back to those now.
  10. You definitely have great taste in equipment, that's for sure. Enjoy!
  11. I was lurking around AVS a bit and I saw several folks doing shootouts and comparisions. Basically the consensus that I got from it was: Pioneer 09 and that Denon Super tank are amazing but the Denon A1UD arguably did not have much going over the Pioneer in any department to justify the rather steep price difference. Obviously if you're rolling in the big dough, sure, buy the Denon. If I weren't so happy with my Oppo BDP-83, I probably would have saved up and bought an 09 myself to go with my Pro111FD plasma.
  12. Let me make this Oppo BDP-83 that much more enticing and sweeter for fence sitters. Oppo bdp 83 multi region firmware upgrade at Codefreedvd.com Read. Believe. And yes, it works perfectly. Now how's $499 look?
  13. They emailed me and told me specifically that I had entered the wrong number and I emailed them back with the correct number without the extra zero. They can do what they have to do after that to make it work.
  14. Sennhesier sent out registration confirmation emails to me to this morning with a notice that they'd had technical issues on their end and that's why it took so long for the emails to go out. Sure enough, I did register the wrong number. The serial number on the headphones themselves are the correct ones to use even if you just add an extra zero in the front.
  15. ^^ That's a really solid player at that price point.
  16. Not sure how cheap you're looking for but if you shop around at places like Amazon, Deep Discount DVD, and the like there are plenty of good BDs that basically are about the same costs as DVDs or just a few bucks more expensive. Example: Amazon had some deal the other day where the new Ghostbusters BD was $10. Hardware prices: I know Vizio is going to come out with a $200 player soon and there's a lot of "last year" players that are clearance selling for at or around $200 as well that are excellent. There's even some new players this year that float around $300. Again, I just don't know how "cheap" you're waiting for. Otherwise there's always rental options like Netflix and such. You're really missing out and needlessly IMO if you have a nice TV like that and you aren't fully utilizing its potential. I hope you can jump on board soon. swt61: Enjoy your new set!
  17. I probably will, too, eventually. Hasn't it been proven pretty much in the past that if you want less headaches you are better off doing a fresh install from the ground up vs "upgrading" from one OS to the next? My perception of Windows 7 is that it is basically Vista SP3 for all intents and purposes. Am I right or wrong in that perception? I've been pretty happy with Vista 64 post SP1.
  18. Like Hopstretch posted: I, too, have basically abandoned trying to multi-task when listening to music with these because they just suck you in all the way and demand your full attention.
  19. So true. It's blacks and lots of other things that help come together for an overall quality of picture and they're all important. When you pay for some nice quality like what you're talking about or the Panasonic that swt61 bought or the Kuro that I have, and so forth...even if you're not some die hard videophile...you get used to that quality quickly and you won't settle for less. Your eyes don't lie to you just like your ears don't lie to you, either.
  20. ^^ This man speaketh great truth.
  21. In my case, I was able to set them to a perfect size for my head almost immediately and unlike the 701s...once I put them on they stay exactly where I want and fit as snugly and comfortably as a glove, so to speak. If I were a headbanger, I would have been long since out of luck with the 701s but not these!
  22. Awesome! No exaggeration: It'll be a whole new world for you, and then some.
