Did they change the HD700 at the line of scrimmage so to speak? Is this unit a newly released one that you're referring too? If so, then a major fail by Sennheiser.
Compared to the Dynalo (GS-1), Dynamid (GS-X) or Dynahi it was to my ears, regardless of headphones. It is a very nice sounding (warm and musical amp), but not the last word with regards to transparency.
Did you ever consider the B22's stepped down treble and darker tone to not be an ideal match for the LCD-2s? At least that's what I found with the combination. Nice write up though.
Then he would most likely have one of the veiled pairs. Kudos to purrin for being able to "fix" his pair with such an easy method. That said, the difference in FR graphs with and without the TP mod isn't night and day to my eyes.
Are you sure that the LCD-3s weren't just showing you the flaws in your recording; while the LCD-2s were glossing over it? If you hear it on several recordings, then it might be the headphones. But sometimes I find that we blame transparent gear for showing us flaws in the source material.
Just curious as to your thoughts about why they wouldn't make a good match? I agree that most of them seem over priced for the performance that they bring to the table.

They measure quite similar with a small advantage to the LCD-3s. Unless your pair has been damaged/tampered with/defective, your comments just don't add up.
