  1. dew eet.

I'm probably older than your momma, and haven't figured out what that means yet :P

    that really sucks.

It does, but at least flecom did an amazing job consider how I got it (all bent up), and the amp sounds really good. I'm chalking this one up as a lesson learned. Oh, and NEVER buy from a woman named Catherine on audiogon. She uses things as demos, but then sells them, but denies she's a dealer. The audiogon people wouldn't let me use her emails to me as proof of my claims...go figure.

  2. For the k1000 hardwire job you might want to contact AKZip he did a really nice job on mine. They sound great and it was less expensive than the equinox and turn around time was about a week.

I was thinking of using him. What do you mean when you say they sound great? What differences?

  3. Sell the Heed, save your $$$. Dangit, did I just do a "voice of reason" thing again, my bad, my bad.

And you know that John will let you borrow his, and isn't Gene getting a pair too?

John's backing out. He just picked up a pair of L3000s. Gene's fully in.

I can't sell the Heed. It was my one audiogon nightmare. It arrived damaged, (single box, no packing material), without doumentation, and the bitch lied her ass off, using my lack of feedback against me. I filed a complaint, but they wanted $95 to mediate. I gave the money to flecom to repair it, but the selector knob will never be flush, and I accidentally tossed the remote in one of my let's clean up everything now moods. It's a great sounding little amp, though. I was using it with my Abbys before I picked up the F1.

  4. So I sold some stuff and want to use the money to hardwire my K1000s. Should I go Equinox as tried and true, or explore other options. I've only heard a Mogami hardwire, which offered minimal improvements to my ears and made the highs a little too much for me (I'm overly sensitive in this area), and the Equinox, which I liked very much, but heard it on a system very different than my own, so can't really compare. What have you guys heard that you could recommend? I'm using an Exemplar modded Denon 2900 > Extreme Platinum > FirstWatt F1.

If I can't decide soon, I know I'm going to blow my money on that dang TakeT group buy, so help me out here.

  5. Dollar value is relative. I'm working class as far as income goes and worked two full-time jobs last year, which paid for my toys. My main amp, with the upgrades, would run someone about $2200 if ordered new (all my upgrades ended up being freebies, I think due to already mentioned delays...nice for me). That would be the same as someone with double my income getting a 5K amp. Two of my headphones weren't exactly value-minded decisions either. So, who is crazier, assuming neither are irresponsible with money for basics, the rich person who drops bucks for what he or she really likes, or someone like me, who picks up some extra work to do the same. Probably me, but I'm happy, which is more than I can say for a lot of people I know.

  6. Does any know if there's a significant difference between the MS2i and the MS1s? I had the MS1s awhile ago, but sold them after a few months. I thought they sounded like toys compared to my other headphones. I liked enough about them, though, to be curious if there's something better in the same line.

  7. Just replaced my MacBook G4 with a MacBook Pro a couple weeks ago. I've had Windows-based computers both at home and at work before. For me, the Mac was worth the extra money, and used my teacher discount to make me feel a little better. I picked up a mac mini for a head-fi friend and he'll be using it as a music server with a Cosecant dac. I've never used my computer as a source before, but since getting into Oink and picking up an external hard drive, I might have to start, and maybe explore the mini mac as well.

  8. best headphones ever.... most people were singing a very different tune before they were discounted.

i'm not a K-1000 fan, but foo_me's rig is truly exceptional.

I'm not sure I'd call them the best headphones ever, but I've been lucky enough to hear most, except the Stax line (other than Thrice's modded Lambda Pros, which I...sacrilege...preferred to the HE-90s with an Esoteric SA10 and Woo), and they're up there with my fav listening experiences. I especially like them with thick choral works. Do you think that's because the right amps weren't yet hit upon? I can't imagine that anyone hearing them in a proper set up could totally dis them, even if they preferred a different sound.

  9. I don't know what they go for now, but I also know that when I bought mine, I really wasn't thinking about the overall cost. First, I bought the headphones (NOS) for $1000 about a year ago, then I bought the Extreme Platinum back in Dec. after hearing the stock version with the K1000s. I then bought a FirstWatt F1 after hearing it and picked up an Equinox tail. Then, I sent the Extreme back for pre-amp outs for my now very nice set up of Exemplar modded Denon 2900>Extreme Platinum with secondary power supply>FirstWatt F1>K1000. Now, I'm deciding which hardwire to get and to go cage mod or no. These are turning into the most expensive headphones I've owned, but zero regrets. I love them.

  10. That's pretty out there, but doesn't suprise me. On a perfectly casual day, I had a guy offer me $500 to let me let him clean my tile grout while he wore a little maid's outfit (this, btw, was not connected to current job). I turned him down, which was almost sad as I would have liked my tile grout cleaned. I just didn't want him in my home.

  11. There are some things which are better off left unknown. This is one of them. As is Dolphinsex.

Egad, man! To think that you even went to find that out. Perhaps I should send you a brochure >:D

Damn, 32 hours over 2 days is still brutal.

Yes, but then I have the rest of the week off. Last year, I taught middle school during the week and did that job during the weekends. That was brutal, and I really had to watch my language come Monday morning.

I believe addiction in this case means a continued behavior in the face of mounting consequences. It the consequences that define addiction. Net addicts don't have very many consequences but sex addicts have financial, legal and relationship consequences and an addict will continue with that behavior.

Pretty much. It's not so much that consequences define addiction, but the inablity to stop or change in the face of mounting consequences, as you so aptly phrased it, is a huge indicator that someone needs help.

  12. ...and gross.

Boomana -- oh, so when you said "addicts" you meant literally "drug addicts", not like net.addicts (like me) or sexual addicts (as I originally took your meaning).

I mean addicts as people usually mean addicts: alcholics, junkies, crackheads, gambling addicts, sex addicts, eating disordered folk, and, as is more common at our facility, combos of the above. When I said, sexual addicts, I meant that literally. People with compulsions that pretty much get in the way of normal interaction, be it with prostitutes (sometimes many times a day), internet porn til raw, or breaking into the neighbors' houses to steal panties, and even weirder stuff. I'm not talking about those that are just into S&M or fetish whatnots, though many of our patients are, but when it reaches a point they can't hold jobs or their families hate them or the law becomes involved, just like any other addict, they show up at our door, if they still have lots of money. Sad, but true. We treat the wealthy.

PFKMan23: Yes, I still work only weekends (32-hrs) and sometimes pick up a day or two here or there if I want to fund a new toy.

  13. Can I ask what you do for a living? I can't imagine dealing with deviants without having run into them before.

I'm a supervisor at a long-term addictions treatment center. Re sexual deviants, we've got the full-range from vanilla to way out there. Just had to transfer a guy from Chicago as we felt he needed a "more structured" type of care. He was compulsively (as in all day) into...well...feces, and he's not been the weirdest, but we'll leave that alone. I've worked there eight years. I went back to school to pick up my grad degree and was a fairly happy middle school teacher until I realized I couldn't afford it. I make twice as much just working weekends here. So it's me and the deviants, along with the garden variety drunks, crackheads, and junkies. Most of the time, I like it.
