  1. Eight 32oz bottles of Dr. Wood's (no relation) Pure Peppermint Castile Soap, for $50 shipped. I'm tired of paying for Dr. Bronner's.
  2. Today is the first day of spring. It snowed in W.Mass.
  3. I have been a T-Mobile customer since late 2007 (when I told Verizon to piss off), I am mortified by this news. A friend of mine tweeted about it last night (marking a rare instance when Twitter has provided useful and timely information.) I'm pretty sure this will mean higher rates and worse service in my future. T-Mobile's network is mighty patchy out here in W.Mass, but my UMA-enabled Blackberry latches on to Wifi hotspots quite well. This makes it usable in all sorts of spots where it wouldn't be otherwise. T-Mobile has really good customer service and tech support. I don't think I can deal with the Death Star, I remember dealing with them in the 90s.
  4. Sup, head case. It's too early to be awake. Those are oreos.
  5. Canon makes the truly glorious EF 24mm F/1.4L II, but it's rather pricey. The original Mk I model is not nearly as good and frankly I'd avoid it.
  6. I have two friends who use the 28/2.8 on APS-C bodies (one has a 60D, the other has a Rebel <mumble>). IMJO, the 28 is kind of useless on the APS-C. It's wideness is lost with the cropped sensor, and as Salty said, it's a full stop slower. I shoot available light almost all the time, and for me F/2 is fine for most locations. It's a "big stop" between F/2 and 2.8.
  7. Brace yourself, folks. We're going to turn the WTF up to 11. This is possibly a repost, but a .gif version showed up on reddit a few days ago and reminded me of it. NSFW What's going on here? Via Reddit: And now, for some comparative normalcy:
  8. DOTU! I don't have a large picture of anything smeg-related, but maybe that's a good thing. So Smeggster!
  9. Artist's rendition of the zodiac killer.
  10. Two fun Daft Facts: Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (back) is holding a Leica. Probably an M9, with either 50mm or 35mm Summicron (meaning "F/2" in Leicaspeak) on it. Thomas Bangalter (front) and I share the same birthday, to the year. Sadly, that's as far as the similarity goes.
  11. WTF, Japan China?
  12. Get an EF 35mm F/2 and a new friend.
  13. After a break from shooting [anything interesting], I worked a rave a few weeks ago. I've now sifted and sorted some of the 1100-ish pix I took that evening: All but the second shot depict the lighting rig I was running for most of the night. Pic #2 is of the "main" stage which had good equipment, but lousy programming. The guy had worked for Pink Floyd, so he had some name recognition and got to charge more than we did. Pox on him, our light show was easily 10x more interesting. I used my 30D and my vintage 1987 EF 50mm F/1.8 Mk I (which is optically identical to the Mk II, but made out of metal and has a distance scale) for all shots.
