I'm (once again) on a boat!

There is a really good reddit thread with a lot of pertinent info. The Reddit servers are actually working well at the moment, which is a minor miracle.

I just placed a large-ish order with Juno's download site. I got two albums that were utterly unobtanium any other whay. One Tnt Recordings, which I know little about. The other is the most recent (as in last fall) album from Chris Zippel, a German downtempo producer I have been a fan of since the late 90s. He now lives in Ibiza (the lucky bum) but still managed to put out a new release every few years. I've got several record orders pending on Discogs, and then I will have officially shot through my paypal balance.

QFMFT. The anti-nuclear spin in the media (ALL of it, I swear) has made me want to harm baby animals. I'm a dirty tree-hugging hippie, and the bad rap nuclear energy gets is mind boggling to me. It's all the fault of the coal and oil lobbies. </tinfoil_hat>

I dunno about the status of Stax, but Nikon is most likely proper fucked. Even champion fruit loop Ken Rockwell noticed (scroll down for relevant crackpottedness.) Nikon is perpetually back-ordered on most of their premium products in the best of circumstances. I can only imagine how bad the situation will be now. Disclaimer: Yes, the availability of high faltuin' camera equipment over here is completely trivial compared to the devastation in Japan.
