Ugh. Yuck. Erg. This stuff is miserable to work with, but it's R39. I are so not a professional insulation installer. I am dirty and itchy and can barely breath.

Oh, right. This thread. I, uh, still haven't taken any close up pix of the tubes. I might borrow my friends EF 100mm F/2.8 Macro lens for the purpose.
I've been woefully busy tearing out the ceiling of my garage and installing insulation, which is not a job I wish on ...most people. While clearing stuff out to make room for this horrible project, I found two boxes and briefly thought I'd discovered another stash of tubes:
No such luck, they're old projector bulbs, for 1960s-era slide and film projects. Pretty cool, but of no use to audio snobs. I'd better keep them away from Mikhail or he'll incorporate them into his next DAC.
Aaaanyway ...back to the salt mines with me. -

I'm trying to figure out why I would take this over the M Audio transit. Is there any reason to assume it would transfer digital better over the BNC cable?
BNC offers true 75-ohm termination, while RCA can at best approximate that. BNC is also easier to attach and remove, and stays secured better. It's a pro standard and a much nicer to work with. I cannot argue that any of this will have an effect on sound quality.

I'm a bit slow on the uptake, but I just noticed the Balanced Home amp is discontinued. So is the Millett Desktop Hybrid and both Max amps.
The Balanced Home was my favorite "all-in-wonder" solution for DAC/amp/preamp. It covered all the bases and did so pretty well. I suggested it to a friend of mine in the antique business (who ended up going with speakers, the cretin.) The Max products were never in my price range, but their existence amused me. Anyone know what HeadRoom has in the works to replace these models? Maybe Tyll can get off Daisy long enough to enlighten us.

Yep, I got my Quad 12L Actives from him as well. He's a really good guy. The only downside is that I have to pay Taxachusetts because it's in-state.
Even with the Sterling tanking against the USD thats a pretty good price. I had my eye on one for absolutely ages.After much debate, I concluded it made more sense to replace my source and gain digital switching than it did to insert a volume control in my already-convoluted signal path. Currently it goes USB -> Edirol UA-5 -> Adcom GCD-750 -> Gilmore Lite -> Quads. The variable and fixed outputs on the Quad 99 will significantly signify things. Additionally, it upsamples and can accept 24/192 input. The only area where the Adcom exceeds the Quad (well, besides weight) is that it has four DACs and true balanced outputs. I am unsure on the sonic differences between the two units. It will be interesting to compare them.
Although I'll probably live to regret it . . .
