  1. Larry La Londe? Charlie Hunter? Alex Skolnick?

Alex Skolnick from Testament, that's it. He's actually a really cool cat. Sometime in the early 90s, he got sick of metal and re-invented himself as a jazz guitarist. He played Amherst College a number of years ago, in a room where I used to do sound. Unfortunately, I was not the soundman that night and I missed the show. I'd liked to have seen him.

  2. Back in the late 80s, I had Satriani's Surfing with the Alien on CD. I bought it because (A) Satch had taught a number of guitarists that I liked at the time (Kirk Hammett, Steve Vai ...uh, maybe someone else) and (B) it had the Silver Surfer on the cover. It was kind cheesy sounding even back then. I tried listening to it again around 1994, and promptly traded it in at the local used music store. If memory serves, Satch started singing on later albums. I cannot imagine that going that well. IMJO, he's an Alpha Cock-Rocker who instructed a bunch of other cock-rockers. Coldplay are a bunch of pretentious pop darlings. I can't really take a side in this little slap fight. I hope both parties come away from it bruised.

  3. #1 someone actually bulding KG's TakeT amp design (the solid state one) would be the coolest thing evar.

#2 say I wanted to try out the Ortho sound? Where would I begin? I have exactly one headphone amp (GLite) which I believe can push 1 watt of power. Is that sufficient? Most of the orthos I see mentioned in this thread are DIY homebrew options of some sort. I should not be trusted with any tool more complicated than a rake, so that's not an option.
