  1. ^ I guess that's what I'm getting at. You can still get the sense of impact from a bass drum hit or bassline and it not be bloated or screw up the entire spectrum of sound. Like anything, it just has to be executed right. You don't have to necessarily "feel" it, but the note itself, can be achieved.

I'm a concert kinda guy, and a good example for me is when I goto watch Tiger Army play. The upright bass is rediculous, and even at crappy acoustic set-up venues, you still get the sense of impact that guy has when he plays. I've gotten that same feeling when listening to SE530's out of a Portaphile, or UM2's from a Hornet.

Like I said, I'm not a fan of bloat, but like Dusty said, you CAN get awesome bass and impact out of a set of cans and when it happens, it's awesome. I just think it's funny when a set of cans does do it, people call it bloated, when in reality, it's just reproducing the live sound.

I have several friends who I've watched in the studio, and there's definitly a different kind of sound coming from a live performance, studio performance and end product finished on CD. IMO, live ALWAYS sounds better....

  2. This isn't directed at anybody, but I find it kinda humorous that people want it to sound as life-like and accurate to the live performance as possible, yet, when a headphone replicates a hard hitting impactful bassline it's heard as 'too bass heavy'.

Example? People revel and awe at the sound of a K701 or HD600, and although they sound organic and realistic, IMO, they lack the hard hitting impact bass that a cello, bass drum hit, upright bass, or slap-bass guitar give you when you heard them live. Yet, people look for a "neutral" phone when looking for cans, but in a live performance, the bass carries the music and isn't "neutral" per say...

That said, I can't STAND horribly bloated bass, but at the same time, I think if you're trying to replicate the "live sound", you should be looking for a can that gives you as close to the visceral impact that alive performance gives you. I think there's a differences between live performance and studio sound, in which case, I think most people are more after the latter....

  3. $35.00 is way to much. like i said most places do $25.00 and for returning customers or valued customers the cost is much lower if not free. I put in 10-15 t-shirt designs a year from my bar and my lighting business with at least 3 dozen of each design in large, extra large, and some other ladies sizes. in 2001-ish my partner and i had one 6 color 6 station in his basement cause we wanted to save on money from all the shirts we where printing. we eventually sold the equipment cause we did not have the time or energy to do the shirts ourselves.

You may be starting out in the business or what ever now but with prices like $35 a screen charge you are not going to make it far. you came in this thread stating you can beat anyone's prices and shit but is that true?

maybe you can do headcase the design and stuff for free and only charge the members $6.00 a shirt plus shipping?

that's a good deal for the members and its a fair cost of what one should pay for a good screened shirt.

the guy i go threw now is a big player in Chicago and he knows how to treat his customers. I am releasing a line of clothing for my bar soon (still in designing stages) and the dude is charging me nothing on the screens. then again he knows we will be ordering by the hundreds when we do. i am talking to him about the Chi-event shirts now but he is going to charge me $25 design costs and shit cause of the lower volume we are aiming for..which is ok i guess.

If you can sway the design charge for 5 or 6 screens and give me a fair price on the shirt i will look into your business seriously for the chi-event shirts. I am planning on selling them at $15.00 each, $6-$8 covers the shirt while the rest will go to hf and the chi-event.

$6-8 covers the shirt. I just said I can do it for $4-6 depending quantity and colors. So it still looks like my higher price is on par with your higher one.

$35 too much? THAT'S INCLUDING DIGITIZATION(mostly for embroidery). Did you ever read that I was charging digitization fees? Um...NO. That's cause I don't charge them. Lets see anybody else do that. That $35 is usually waived if the file comes to me ready to print, but most people come to us with an idea, a couple random pictures and ask for a design to be made.

You said yourself, he's not charging you because he knows you'll be ordering HUNDREDS of shirts. You're probably a repeat customer, and anybody with any sense wouldn't charge thier regulars, get fucking real. Stop being so fucking cantankerous.

I think we're doing pretty well for ourselves. Every year we get business from TARGET for the Fl-Ga game shirts. Go where you want...I just know you won't beat that price sans the obnoxiously cheap outsourcing from China for smaller quantities. Most of the jobs we get is under a quantity of 300, specializing in smaller jobs for around the city and the local fraternaties with no minimums. We've found our niche, and are running with it....

  4. I'm still here. Called out in the T-Shirt thread? How?

For being so closely knit, I didn't even know you were in existence at the Tampa meet. Pretty close knit eh? I didn't see any women there, nor have I ever seen you....And it's not like I was wandering all over the place and we happenned to miss each other, I sat on the fucking couch the whole time and listened to portables, his Denon table and the Orpheus'....so uh, for being so closely knit, I sure as fuck didn't see you anywhere.

    I'm going to call you....nevermind.

  5. At the meet I was at he was answering tech questions, with the exception of op-amps used. Granted they mainly consisted of battery life and why he chose the batteries he did, but tech questions none the less. I expected no different on a forum.

I also asked if the battery were user replaceable. Most likely a simple answer, and DEFINITLY not a "tech question". I don't want to have to rely on his ass to change out a fucking battery.

How the fuck am I supposed to know he doesn't answer tech questions on a forum?

Hmm...answering questions in person, but not on a forum, especially on the likes of HF = douchebag. Maybe that's a bit strong of a word choice...but you get the idea.

    In anycase....meh.

  6. You're really working at turning that 'jr' into 'sr', aren't you?

Meh...what's in a name? Hell, I didn't even know you were a mod till just now...that's how insignificant/meaningless those titles are to me...

My opinion of Ray was before I came to head-case, however short it were, it's still crap that he can't answer a question, especially if it means a sale. I'm not in the financial position to say "meh, I'll drop $500 to see if I like it..." I'de expect ANY question asked to be answered...meh...

  7. I'm calling him a douchebag cause I've sent him PMs on other forums, as well as eMails WEEKS before the outtage of Head-Fi, which lasted 3 weeks. I've gotten not even "I'll get back to you when I'm not so busy" reply. Which atleast, would have been somewhat understandable.

I guess you can call my "singing him praise" in ignorance. Sure, I own an original Hornet and love it, but that doesn't say I respect the guy on a personal level. Especially after getting ignored on several fronts. After I've started to read about his whining (not just hear-say, but the posts themselves) whenever says ANYTHING on a critisizing level, he whines. Very unmature of him to whine about not being able to goto a PUBLIC meet either. So what, you're not invited, STFU already. And his business practices of "allegedly" copying designs and calling him his own are also shady IMO. So what if you copied it, big deal. It's the audio industry, it's done on a regular basis. Atleast other people who do copy it, don't claim it to be novel and revolutionary and it be able to drive EVERYTHING.

My suspicions were correct on the 1st meet I went to where he had a Hornet hooked up to an A/B switch and one of his larger home amps, can't remember exactly which one. But it was funny how alot of people at the meet were like "that's amazing, it sounds just like the home amp!", NOT going "why the fuck would you buy that $$$$ amp if it sounds the same as the portable?" And people STILL continued to buy his full size amp. WTF? Is it just me or does that seem rediculously stupid? I'm thinking said A/B switch was just a switch to cut out sound for a second and it was hooked to just one amp.

In anycase, I'll admit I'm guilty of owning one of his products (as said above). But there's a reason I own it over another portable. It has a pretty case and the gain switches are external. Pretty much a matter convenience and looks for the price I paid for it (~60% of sticker), it made it a dece deal. There's no way in hell I'de pay full price for one of his products.

Call this bitching I guess...but it irks the crap outta me when I had a legitimate question, and it tried to get shot down by mods until I made it BLATENTLY apparent is was of valid question which deems to be answered. Funny how all questions before and after mine are answered by him...especially ones of crap which could be gathered just by reading the thread. In my book, avoiding any technical question of yours on an upcoming product that ISN'T of proprietary nature (like a design secret, etc), makes you a douchebag. Man up if your design sucks...don't cry about it.

  8. Of course there's the obvious "I want $$$$" answer, but realisticly speaking, what should I tell her? She's familiar with the cost/nature of the hobby, but I don't want to completely stray her away from ever buying me anything audio related ever again with some extravagant want.

So what should I tell her I want?

It would be for something primarily used at home or when on the putor like now. But I would occasionally take it out wherever. Again, not expensive.

So I was thinking along the lines of lower end Grados, K240, HD555, K81DJ, RP21, RP22,etc. Something lower end that doesn't give you sticker shock but is a good call. Basically, sub $100.

Oh, it'll be driven by a portable rig most all the time, so it'll have to be easy to drive, but respond VERY WELL to a portable amp.

  9. I know you were ;)

Screen charges are $35. But we also don't charge a digitization fee if it's FAIRLY simple. Now if you're wanting to get all crazy with halftones.....

But we're able to keep costs down cause we have no overhead, no other real staff, and everything is paid for.

  10. I can beat that price, if you order over 10,000, and you want those crappy shirts...

You can get the same breathability out of a similar weight 50-50 WITHOUT all the shirinking and fading that 100% hanes shit gives you. Oh, and the ends won't roll up like hanes or most 100% cotton cheap shirts do over time. Sometimes, it benefits you to spend $1-2 extra per shirt.

FWIW, Gap Inc(that includes Old Navy and Banana Republic), BARELY gets thier shirts at those good of prices, and I have access to the same shirt vendor they use. And they're ordering in the amounts of millions. So umm...yeah, I can beat any price, if you give me a high enough quantity.

  11. Give me Hanes comfort soft 100% cotton at $1.50 a peice with no silk screen design charge on 6 different colors/screens, can you beat that?

Those shirts are junk, lol. I can't beat that(mainly due to amount of screens needing to be burned), but I don't use trash shirts like Hanes.

  12. FWIW, I run a clothing company, so if you DO decide to make these shirts, I have no minimums and can definitly beat any internet or printer price.

Made on high quality 50/50 shirts, cotton, or any thickness kinda hoody you'de want...well, anything really. I can put it on whatever you want clothing wise. Screen print, heat transfer, embroidery, it's all done in house. We have a 5 head printing press and a 7 head embroidery machine which can also do hats and beanies. I can do all over prints as well because I have LARGE screens.

    My websites:

http://www.getlocalized.com (in serious need of an update)

http://www.fitforkingsclothing.com (FFK,not quite up yet, but there's a little video on there)

    myspace pages:

    http://www.myspace.com/getlocalized

    http://www.myspace.com/oicdn

    http://www.myspace.com/localnate

We're saving all of our higher end FFK stuff for our debut(polos, button ups, reversable hoodies, etc)which may air soon on MTV, so there's not really much to show on that site yet as I don't want to give anything away. But it's dope.

    Meh...

  13. Hmm, see, lower end is where I'll be, lol. I'm looking to stay at under $2K.

    3000 hours....I don't watch TV but like 4 hours a day max...so 3K hours is a decent life.

So I'm still kinda stuck between what to get. I can get bigger for cheaper with DLP, but at the same time, I dunno if I really NEED bigger. I barely watch TV, that, and I could never hang up a DLP on the wall. Well, I could, but it'd look like shit, lol.

Maybe I should just spend $700 and get a 1080p projector with a dece screen.

  14. Who has experiance here?

I've been in the market for a lil while, and since I'll be sitting about 2-3m away, I figure the resolution isn't that important since I'll be in the 40-44" range. Most likely in the lower range.

Well, that's according to this chart atleast:

    http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html

Now, I've pretty much ruled out LCD due to it's trailing and blacks. I know there are fan boys out there who will dispute otherwise ("the only time it's noticeable is when you have a huge pioneer elite, blah blah blah"), but I think the difference is fairly marginal, on any of the TV's I've looked at. I like the idea of LCD being lighter and less energy consuming, but that's really about it. After staring at a plasma screen for awhile, going to even a 5ms LCD was kinda funky for me.

So how do the modern slim DLPs fare against these two? I see that you can get about 10 more inches for the same price as a plasma or LCD for the same price AND it be 1080p. Judging by some of the demo's I've seen at the big retailers it seems like they're fairly identical, and DLP has come a long way. How is the half-life in comparison?

I know 1080p is 1080p, but actual output is different. I've seen a 1080p projector on a nice screen, and it was wasn't as crisp as the same size LCD or plasma. Brilliant contrast, but not as crisp.

  15. You're having another baby? Oy, I keep saying I'll only have one right now. Yeah, I'm not having another one. Having one colicky baby is enough for me. Although, at the 6 month old stage is so unbelievably cute to almost, just almost erase the memories of 4 months of hell.

I'm in the "6 month old kid" boat right now. I can tell you bro, spending the extra money on DR. BROWN BOTTLES was more than worth the investment. We found out he wasn't colick, but he was lactose intolerant, so we had to switch his formula to that Nutramigen $$$ stuff. We likely wouldn't have been able to find out that was the problem if we didn't have those bottles. He's never pissed off from gas cause those bottles are the shit. He also has only thrown up TWICE since he was born, and it was my fault cause I was tossing him around in the air playing.

Not to mention, he sleeps from 9pm-10am, with only ONE wake-up at 6am for a diaper change and feeding(buying GOOD diapers are also a godsend, no leaking and they hold more crap/piss). Those bottles are like magic. Seriously, go get them. Those plastic bag bottles or Playtex or Advent bottles are trash....DR. Brown ftw and nothing else....never looked back and I've never lost a night of sleep.
