Germania better watch out.

snapping one's fingers produces more bass than the K501.

The problem is there's a (wall-mounted) shelf immediately to the right of the desk, which needs to stay where it is, otherwise I would just let the speakers hang slightly past the edge of the desk. Desk is 37" wide, and the monitor is 22.5" wide, so the absolute maximum is 7.25" without shifting everything off-center. 7.5" would only require a small enough of a difference that I might be able to live with it.

I've got M5's little brother, ELS3, and they sound pretty nice. Didn't realize M5's are that small.
Yeah... I'm surprised by how small a lot of speakers are turning out to be.
-
Looks like the Epos M5 might be another option for me to consider as well.

That ministat certainly looks interesting, too bad it's too big. What I've pieced together for the 9L2 so far is not too positive compared to its bigger siblings, and what I'm finding on the L-ite is mostly just in conjunction with the whole surround setup. \
I think I'll keep Quad in mind for the future if I ever need larger bookshelf speakers again, but plan on getting the Totem Rainmaker for now. I don't really have enough in my PayPal balance (which is my hobby fund) to try both right now and still deal with some other upcoming purchases.
-
Bah, try them both, the least cheap method of them all.
I'll do some more digging on the smaller quads.
-
Duggeh, any idea how either of those Quads compare to the Totem Rainmaker? I know fuck-all about how any of Quad's speakers sound, and even though I'll be using them way outside of ideal conditions I'm currently leaning towards the Rainmaker.
-
Wow... I could've sworn those were wider than 6.8", good to know they're an option, thanks!
-
I don't have pre-out connections on my amp... is there a non-powered version of those?
-
Quad L-ites or 9L. Gorgeous into the bargain.
Awesome, I'll check those out.

I have a bit of a dilemma with the audio rig at my desk. I had been using a pair of Acoustic Research AR4x's that I pulled out of a dumpster, but with my new monitor there isn't enough room for them to fit properly. I need to get some new bookshelf speakers that are 7" wide or smaller, and don't require a subwoofer crossed over way high to avoid sounding thin. I have no idea what's good on the market right now, which is made even harder to figure out due to the size constraint. So if anybody happens to know some nice speakers that are that small, I'd be very grateful for the advice.

FF2 was never exactly known for being speedy
Despite the fact that (years ago) the project was originally supposed to be a very lightweight and speedy alternative to the Mozilla suite.

Did you miss that whole discussion on page 1?
Well who can be bothered to read the whole first page of the thread?

Am I the only one to 'Click here to see boobies'? Uh, I did it twice.
I've done it more times than I'd like to think.

And crude. Brrrrrppp.
What ever do you mean? We're completely high class and would not do such crude things, like posting videos of "how to queef."

And another unexpected purchase just now... a couple cels from Serial Experiments: Lain. I've held out a looong time for a good Lain cel that was at a price I was willing to pay, and it's finally happened.
And just got this one too after getting the seller to drop the price a little bit:

Thanks a lot!
I've been here some months. But don't post as frequently as on the "other site"...
Stick around Kai, things are a lot more open and transparent here, even if Reksy is a jerk.

Buying music online is too easy
Meh, I find it easier to get carried away when in an actual store. Online I can keep it in the shopping cart and rethink it later, or compare prices somewhere else. In the store I have the discs in my hand right then, so close to owning them, and much less time to think it over, even though they're likely much more expensive than anywhere online.
-
what is your budget, Fitz?
I wasn't necessarily looking for one, but I'd like to not spend more than $200-$300 should I get a new one. I'm not keen on the alternative route of cheap DVD player + DAC, considering my negative experiences with the cheapies.
-
Too bad you didn't win that CDP in the HFi give away
Well, it's not like I can't afford one, I just don't wanna have to actually buy a new one, y'know?
-
I definitely believe it will improve sound quality if at a minimum it no longer skipped on a bunch of my CDs, even when they're pristine.
-
DVD-A? I still don't even have a decent CD player. \

Now that's what I call an impulse buy. Good luck with it.
