  1. I've got some of those exact banana plugs. The threads are cut kinda rough, so some might be difficult to thread the outer shell on, but otherwise they're fine. They hold a lot more securely than your typical cheap 4-spring banana plug.

  2. That works, but none of the sponsor forums show anything when you click on them :P

You can always go and setup a separate one for each individual forum page if you don't want to use the "display all hidden items" function each time you go to the sponsor forums. I never browse those so it doesn't matter to me.

  3. First time I did a set of Sennheiser cables... soldered directly to the pins without having to use any heatshrink over the connector afterwards:

I guess I should have called this line of cables the "recstar" but SUCKITALO just seemed more fun. The only other name in contention was LIMITOFAUDIOGOODNESS but that seemed like it would just be too long and difficult to say. ;D

You'll be hearing from my lawyer about this trademark infringement of SUCKITALO.

  4. I just got the Sony ECR-500, do I get to join the non-dynamic club? :kitty:

Aw man, I may just have to get me a pair of those sometime too. Minh didn't show up at the last ATL meet, so I didn't get to listen to his pair again.

  5. If it was rek's breadbox, it would come infested with AIDS, and 6year old moldy bagels inside. A week later it would be home to a family of cockroaches. One month later it would spontaneously combust, leaving the roaches searching for a new home. They would finally settle inside the Theils, and reproduce. Two more weeks later, when rek's system stoprs working for the 13th time, he would pull a driver out to see that roaches ate the entire crossover network. This in turn, led to a short in the wiring, and it fried his brand new Power Amplifier. But the deisgner of the amplifier was through a roundabout connection actually Ray Samuels. Rather than a fuse blowing, the fail safe was to dump 120V onto the RCA inputs, thereby frying the Capitole. The capitole didn't know how to react, and in an effort to save itself, blew its fuse. The previous owner didn't know the capitole needed fast-acting fuses, so he installed slow-blows instead. Since the fuse didn't react fast enough, the circuit breaker popped, when the new iMac was in the middle of a BIOS update, rendering the computer a fancy new paperweight.

Sounds like his luck is improving if that's all that happens.

  6. His reviews are so lame anyway. He uses such vague terms, and basically posts whats already been said about an item.

It would be really fun to totally screw with an amp, and have someone send it off to him for review without making him aware of the deed. Play it up as a fantastic amp, and then see what the review says.

Ohhhh... there's a lot of things that could be done to screw with the sound in an amp and add copious amounts of distortion. But you'd have to weight the entertainment value of him reviewing it against the cost of making that amp, since it's not like you're ever gonna see it again.

  7. I don't know about the 179 specifically, but I have a 189 and absolutely love it. Would've probably gotten the 187, since I don't use the logging, but I found a good deal on a used 189 before I could find one on a 187.

One thing I will suggest is getting a decent set of test leads, you wouldn't believe how much they can come in handy. I have ones that'll clip onto component leads so you can easily adjust trimpots and such, tips with a plastic guard that'll safely measure one pin on a DIP IC (like an opamp) without sliding off and shorting against the adjacent ones, ones with long sheathed extensions to measure in tight spots, etc. I really don't know how I got by with just regular test leads before.

I'd probably rather use a more basic meter with good leads than a fancy meter with only standard leads, but maybe I'm just weird.
