X Japan is fairly good; Art of Life is great.
But more importantly, NEW BORIS ALBUM IS FLOATING AROUND.
-
I made my "helping hands" in my high school shop class, still better than anything I could buy. For wire strippers and cutters, nothing special - just some cheap craftsman stuff.
Fungi: In Goleta, check out Marvac Electronics. They have lots of good stuff (Xcelite, etc). Like a good DIY nerd, I spend a lot of lunch hours there just looking around.
Nice, I will definitely be checking that place out.
-
Thanks for all the replies and non replies, the Panavise circuit board holder and Xcelite nippers look especially good.

Sorry for being the token hippie, but I don't think it's possible to top Nature's Path Hemp Plus cereal. But it's too expensive so I just eat Frosted Flakes (too sugary), Raisin Bran Crunch (too raisiny), or Corn Pops (lack of flavor) at the dining commons.

We have lots of info on good parts, but I can't seem to find good tools. I don't mean multimeters and soldering irons, I mean the guys that do the hard work but go unnoticed, like helping hands and wire strippers.
In my experience, the standard helping hands thing from PartsExpress is a little flimsier than I'd like, and I don't know how to determine a good wire stripper since I only have the one from a group buy with not enough sizes.
Feel free to throw in whatever cool tools you like too, because what is a man without his tools?

Forget all the fancy schmancy equipment, give the gift of gaming with Wii Fit!
(But seriously, this is a great way to get into getting into shape. Yoga, muscle stretches/training, aerobics, and body balance all rolled into one.)

Fungi did you see my reply to you?
Oh yeah, I saw that and I was waiting for the poster to reply to my question (your question) but I don't know if he's there. I'm guessing it was amp only since he didn't say anything about DACs.
-
ahaha, how would you know that?
I abuse Monoprice. Digital, analog, if they have it I'm there.
EDIT: And of course I knew it beforehand from the reviews on the site.
-
The plugs on the Monoprice one aren't THAT great and the red/white is reversed, but it gets the job done. And of course incredible price.

K240 Sextett on eBay... I paid a decent amount but not higher than what people on HF would pay nowadays
They looked great too, the guy said he'd had them since the 80s but the pads were great and so was the headband.
-
Maybe he'd sound better with a rewire. We should ask Alex for a quote.
We'd need to beef up the power supply to his brain and rewire his entire nervous system. I'm afraid even Alex couldn't handle that.

Actually what you need to do with K701's is let them rest with no music playing through them for months. Like mine have been doing since I got MS2i's and RS1's.
Huh, so I guess it really is my DA53 making everything unnecessarily bright. (I find the MS-2 really bright, I think it's time to get a more normal source...)
-
I thought head-fi hated the 701s and loved 501s..
Nah, that seems to be the case over here more. I'll have to yank my friend's K701 soon to make a real comparison.
I think a lot of burn-in is "give it another hundred hours to convince yourself that you didn't waste money"

what thread?

Sorry Justin if I came off as trying to knock the Pico, because that's the last thing I'd want to do.
-
SE-200PCI might be a good internal sound card, I've been looking around and it looks to be a solid choice. Do it and report back!

This is what one person wrote in the 2ch portable amps thread, and basically this person is wondering if anyone else hears a slight delay on the right channel that creates a "surround" effect that doesn't feel quite right. To him, the XM5 sounds more natural in this respect (but just this, he also states that the Pico has more detail).
A lot of crap goes down in that thread, but this post seemed genuine enough to bring up over here.

Who?
Mike Jones?

It has some embroidery something or other.

Short translation: U55SX has excessive highs and is dry and bright; SE200 is more relaxed and normal.
There's a good number of reports on poor build quality on the Onkyo externals. Why not E-MU 0404 USB or something?

I think Iron Dreamer liked it too, it's somewhere in the Mayberry thread.

The Aurvana Live! is a well-balanced headphone, not overemphasizing anything and doing very well for a closed can. I'd say it has a slight V-shaped frequency curve. Vocals sound pretty good and if you can handle MS-2 highs, then these should be no problem at all (peak in the highs). At this price range, I don't think it's very likely that anything won't have that "closed" sound, and the Aurvana Live! is no exception. Can't say I have much experience with closed headphones but I'd say these are staying with me. They don't seem slow or lacking in detail, and soundstage is fairly good for a closed headphone.

I saw these at Fry's and they are tacky!
So are these the same as Denon D1000? The Creatives seem to use Foster's "biocellulose" drivers, while the Denons advertise "microfiber". Suspicious that they both have the same impedance and sensitivity.
One of the reviews I linked says that the sound is similar to the Denons, but the D1000 has a little less bass.

I'd love to hear the Cooter amps everyone's raving about, especially since I have never sit down and taken time with a nice high end rig. Speaking of high end, I'd love to hear your K340 again Ken.

I was wondering when you'd get here. Welcome to the club!

Awman, I was hoping it'd be super awesome cool. But I'm guessing you're not so big a fan of PINK, so I'll go hear for myself.
