  1. His mother needs to learn how to focus her camera... Also why did he put that mylar in? Did some of the lambdas not have the metal grille in front of the drivers? If not, how do you manage to destroy the old mylar through the grille anyway? for the price asked, you should be able to get a decent pair in much better condition as well..
  2. The original caps are 30mm x 60mm with a 12.5mm lead spacing, got them still lying around... Note that the old caps leads are slightly out of center, so your new ones won't fit into the circles on the pcb so nicely and might touch the resistors next to them (if you also buy 30mm diameter). I used these in mine. 25mm diameter, fit pretty well, quite a bit more capacity, low esr types. After swapping them out I imagined hearing more treble and better mids - however no direct comparison. When desoldering the old ones, be careful, their leads are bent onto the pcb, so won't get them off so easy - you could try cutting them off without damaging the pads after desoldering the big bumps and removing the debris later.
  3. The SRM1 Mk2 is a solid state amp, so no tubes to adjust there. You can adjust the DC balance (+ vs -) and the overall DC offset (+ and - vs ground) for both channels via pots inside the amp. Ideally you should have 0V on all four outs, realistically you can get the balance down a few hundred mV and the offset to something below 1V. Note these values tend to drift with time and temperature and should be adjusted with the amp warmed up and closed (with a thin isolated screwdriver through holes in the lid). You can however not adjust the bias with the SRM1; just make sure you set it to the right operating voltage (240V for Germany).. The SRM only has four electrolytes inside: three to flatten the high voltage after the rectifier and one for smoothing what seems to be a slightly more negative reference...
  4. I disagree about the foam. With my Lambda Pros using or leaving the foam makes a pretty notable difference. The foam does somehow dampen the upper mids, taking the brilliance and the 'sparkle' out of voices (esp. female). That's why my foam stays in the box with the old pads.. Didn't notice anything on the bass though...
  5. Yup, something like that. To me the presentation sounded very real - like real live music, not like the reproduction of some -, yet the sound/tonality of this music was not at all the sound I was used to (speaking of tracks I knew very vell). Just like a musician playing your favourite violin piece on a violin totally out of tune right in front of you. Compare it to watching a show you know well on a brand new HDTV but with seriously mis-adjusted colors.
  6. The AD2000 are imho the weirdest sounding phones I've ever heard . They sounded so totally realistic, yet totally wrong. As if the real musician stood right before, playing a seriously broken and misadjusted version of his instrument. Strange cans, those....
  7. Just last week I had a long and very friendly phonecall with a senior engineer from Stax Germany (sounded like he had been on board since at least the early 80s) and we talked about the 404Ltd too. He said that they used exactly the same drivers as the normal 404s do, with the only differences being the black color, the flatter real-leather pads and the silver plated cable. He also said that against his expectations (a a tech-guy) he was able to measure that they did in fact not have rolled-off treble (from around 20kHz on) as the normal 404s do, wich he says to be caused by the cable. That leaves the much discussed better bass of the 404Ltds to be caused by the pads exclusively... So no different drivers from the airbow-line, only pads. Gee, this starts reminding me of Grados/Alessandros...
  8. OK, I see, thanks guys. So it's just a 404 with marketing-induced autosuggestion and/or possibly some different damping. Interesting that they offer it with a tiny SRM 253 (wich from the outside looks just as a 252) amp..
  9. Know that that's a lvl 12 spell, you might need to level some more first. what i meant to say was: that rattling lambda might just be a hair stuck in the grille in front of the driver, look closely. Also what's that airbow sc-1 thing anyways? neither google nor faust could help me much on that one...
  10. you can always put an extra layer of audiphile garden hose around it for increased protection and even better sound
  11. jeez those look horrible. like cheap walmart cakes. this must be happens when color-blind people design headphones.. on the other hand they suit the as-ugly fingernails pretty well
  12. The Reference Grados sure do have nice resolution treble, but the volume of the mids and bass is just so much more than the treble; thats why I call them dark (or warm if you want). My beloved K701s are just the other way round: They do have a very clean and deep bass, but since the treble is more accentuated the phones can sound like they totally lack bass for some people. It's all a matter of what you are used to and what you set as your personal reference. That's probably a short way to say it.
  13. Yes sure, Grados are more fun-phones than the DT880 or K701. They make a nice couple, being the exact opposite in some respects (got a pair of MS1 and K701 myself). hey there need to be treble heads too
  14. If you like the sound of the DT 880s you might not be satisfied with Grados at all. I found them to sound very dark compared to the DT880 (or the K701) sound (besides the 325i, those will seriously hurt your ears after a few minutes). Not bad, but I missed the heights. You might want to try the Alessandro MS1 (MS Pro if you are rich) instead. However, if you go for the SR 225 be prepared for a much lower resolution than you know from your Beyers... And a much lower build quality.
  15. Yeah, but awesome mystery meat (with mystery sauce)
  16. I am going to go get a nice D
  17. kk. then mods pls close/delete/whatever this topic. [
  18. Over at HF there is a mod for the Denon D2000/D5000 that is supposed to make them... (HF Topic) I'm not quite sure what to to make of this; he sounds pretty rational describing the mod. On the other hand he talks of vast differences after changing the phones' cables (and burning them in), which i tend to doubt. Has someone of you heard this 'spectacular' mod yet?
  19. Allright then, I guess I got you wrong here. Please take your time Although the UK will actually be Germany
  20. no guys, now i think you're getting it wrong (which is probably my own fault). it's absolutely not about getting for free whatever I can get. I left that behaviour behind me a long time ago. I will be leaving the states by the end of this month and I would like to bring the TRS cables home as a kind of practical souvenir & memory for the time I have spent in the US. Nothing to do with free stuff regardless the circumstances... I will not bump this on purpose anymore, don't want to get into more discredit...
  21. These MC phones are really uglyl imho. Also according to a guy who asked Senn about it, the HD700 will be named HD800 because 700 is a 'bad number' in some asian cultures... no word on a when though.
  22. naah.. just gently bumping this because i won't be in the states that much longer.. and yes, poor student doing an unpaid internship is poor and unpaid...
  23. no tracking no or anything? Hope you don't get it delivered by a lazy ups guy. they left my 250$ mp3 player package laying widely visible in front of my apartment for 5 hrs yesterday instead of dropping it off at the mgmt office... anyway keep us informed about these, the price is pretty tempting.
  24. hope you guys had a good start into 2008! just to let you know: i just got back to the states this weekend and i will stay here until early february. Also, tkam now has the logo source data. going to get something to eat and watch some dexter now
