  1. I noticed the original heat sink that Kevin used had the fins running horizontally. I know they look better this way but how much less efficient are these compared to fins vertical. I know this was custom material from Justin, but were looks preferred to ultimate efficiency with Justin's choice. Thanks les
  2. Thanks all, nice to know all is normal. Les
  3. Thanks Kevin. Can anyone enlighten me in regards to following behaviour of my KGSS. I built this back in 2000. All supplies are stable and I carried out Kevin's setup. Set the first pot for zero volts on meter between + and - Outputs. Set second pot for zero output at + and Ground. Reset these after running for 30mins. After doing all of this I watched the both meters and meter between + and - varies between -100mv and 500mv while the other one reads about 1.0v even though both of these were set initially at 0.Both channels experience the same effects and both never get greater than 1 volt over 1 hour. Is normal for the amplifier?. It sounds GREAT. Appreciate any comments. Thanks Les
  4. Guys, Can someone tell me if Kevin's Current Domain Electrostatic Amp that appears on Headwize is the same as what is known as the KGSS. Les
  5. Thanks, No I hadn't found that one , but its gives me precisely what I want. getting quite interested in the 007. Must keep pricejapan in mind as the local dealer charges 2x what they charge. Les
  6. Maybe as you age you will have a better attitude towards other and realise we all have plenty to learn. Thanks for the best wishes, a nice challenge for a 65 + music lover. Les
  7. I was looking for a simple straight forward answer just to wet my appetite. Re the T2 don't worry ive had more hot dinners and dealt with electronics more than you've seen if your age listed in your profile is correct. So if someone else could give me some input also it would be appreciated. Les
  8. Thanks guys, how do I tell difference between Mk2 and 2.5. Another question, any reason not to purchase these from say Pricejapan. Or for that matter an import. I know re warranty but these should be good out of the box. Local prices for a 007 Mk2 are ridiculously high here in NZ. Les
  9. Guys, What is a fair price for a 007 Mk1 in mint condition?. Les
  10. Hi Guys, Open to suggestions re upgrading my Headphones. Currently have an old set of SR Lambda Classics along side a KG Triode amp, KGSS and T2 in construction. Would dearly love a set of 007's or 009's. Will eventually get these but was wondering what would be a worthwhile upgrade till I can afford the top line. Will buy new as I cant be bothered to wait till right one pops up on Ebay. Besides the local importer is in my city and can demo most models. Just repaired my KGSS after it took a tumble in our Quake shake recently. Listening to Stax really drew me in again to Headphone listening. Sheer bliss, I can only imagine what my T2 and a set of 007/9 would sound like matched up. Thanks and all comments welcomed. Les
  11. Thanks Guys, I agree to, think I will go with the status quo until something untoward happens. Don't like to change anything unless needed to. Dual Mono power supplies as a backup plan.
  12. Thanks for the temps, Sumr will supply transformers with the next sized cores for an extra $10. They are 110mm in diameter, not a problem for me as I will make the ps a little bigger.
  13. Yes a must not to provide a shorted turn. Have a we look at this link, may help don't know. How is the Toroid mounted in the T2?.Wonder how much help to beef up the transformer by say 25-50%?. Here is the link. http://www.pa-international.com.au/index.php?option=com_easyblog&view=entry&id=6&Itemid=177
  14. GeorgeP I am making up my own chassis, heat sink fins will be vertical and the height will be 4". That's 1" taller than Kevin's Chassis. If you said his chassis height leaves 1" spare the that will give me 2" and I was thinking I might mount a heat sink to the top of each transformer. Hopefully give me some insurance as I never like really hot things in electronics. Thanks for the reply guys and would be interested in temps. Les
  15. Hi, Does anyone know if there has been issues with amp pertaining to the heat. From all accounts reading thru the threads that some for example GeorgeP was a bit concerned. Now that the amp has been in use for a good while has anything emerged. As I am about to start on mine. Anything that needs to be upgraded now is the time to do it. Les
  16. Sorry guys, been thru the thread 1.5 times and missed it second time thru. Les
  17. Can anyone comment on 2SC3381 variants GR and BL. I see the BL has 2 x the gain of the GR. BL seem easier to get but as one is used in each battery is there enough adjustment. How will it effect output of the amp as the audio input stage uses them also. BOM doesn't specify. Also thanks guys for your feedback on Fake parts. Les
  18. Thanks Guys, If I have to take a punt, what are the results of using the fake ones?. Which to use if I have to GR or BL. Les
  19. Is UTsource reliable. It says its a Toshiba and provides a Datasheet from Them. can anyone comment. Thanks Les
  20. So what you see thru the grill when the foam is removed is this PVC film. So the foam is just another level of protection. I see, and now know a little more about my phones. Les
  21. Thanks, Are you not concerned about stuff getting into the Drivers, or are they just being a purist when they fit it. Les
  22. Thanks Spritzer, This foam seems to disintegrate just thru age and not use. Have you had to change this before the pads needed replacing?. Les
  23. Hi, What can u use for a Dust mesh. My pads are ok but dust mesh is stuffed. I know I can buy new ones but im a bit tight. So can you use any foam or is it something special. Les
  24. Yea, I scored myself a board set, Kevin had an early series and needs some mods. Really happy, now the hunt starts for legit semi's. First I must buy a DY924 tester. Anyone who has just started to source any components and can update possible sites for the real semi's would be appreciated. Les
