  1. Food is good. Generally I like to wander the city, but I fear it will be too cold to do much of that next week. Havn't really traveled anywhere in the winter, besides Cuernavaca, which doesn't count. Guess I really don't know.

    Some suggestions:

    - North End for Italian. If you like seafood, Neptune Oyster is a great spot to check out.

    - Chinatown for Chinese/Vietnamese. Hei La Moon is my personal favorite.

    - Fanueil Hall if you're into the more tourist-y stuff. The aquarium is a 5 minute walk from here and there's a bunch of shops/restaurants, but I would encourage you to go a little further to the North End for food.

    - Copley Square area for a little more upscale experience.

  2. I grew up eating all that stuff mypasswordis listed. I do enjoy the occasional offal (girlfriend can't stand it!) and used to love fish eyes as a kid...my parents would take the rest of the head. I'm always up for trying new foods, but don't know if I could do the worms up there. Maybe if they were deep fried.

Most recent bizarre food I've had is buffalo, which is actually quite tasty. It's like a very lean beef.

  3. ...still can't imagine why anyone would want these over an Omega 2 though which is only $3-400 more

If it was me, it'd be because I already have an amp for it. The Omega 2 would really be $3-400 plus the cost of an amp to drive it.

  4. I really liked the DT531, so who knows, maybe the t1 will be alright

but, if they go with the 'electric' treble of other beyer phones (namely the 880's) it will most likely suck

it would be interesting to see a comparo tho between these and hd800's, since both are going for a 'neutral' approach

to me ATH's and AKG's just sound like the more coloured brands compared to Senn And Beyer

If the T1 ended up being a high-end version of the DT531, that would be awesome. I totally agree with you on the "electric" treble and cannot stand it. I'm not a big fan of any of the modern Beyers, but I'm hoping the T1 may change that.

  5. Last question...is there a real quality difference between the WXGA+ anti glare display and the WXGA+ True Life display? They were both the same price, and the True Life is no longer offered even though it was there a couple of days ago.

True Life is glossy and makes the screen seem more vibrant. Personally I like it on my laptops as it does seem to have more contrast than your usual screen, but it can be annoying if you work in direct light.

  6. Photoshop is a resource pig; whatever you do, beforehand or after, max out on RAM (I.E. make sure it goes beyond 4Gb, and get a 64-bit operating system). Let me email a friend of mine who basically lives in photoshop, and see if multiple cores help (IIRC, I think not), in which case I'd also recommend getting the fastest CPU you can in there. You may even want to get something that has a SSD.

Multiple cores do help, but can get bottlenecked by other system components past 2 cores. Here's an old link, but you get the idea:

  7. What's the deal with the fleas/tics (little things running around all over him)? I've seen things ranging from a special comb (can't get that until Sunday) and a good shampoo wash (he screams bloody murder and generally goes a bit nuts in water - I'm too much of a pussy!).

One of our cats totally does that too when given a bath. Since your guy is young, you can probably manage a bath without too much issue. If you want to give it a try here are some tips:

-Get the bathtub area ready before getting him. That means get a bucket of warm water, a smaller cup/bowl to pour the water with, and the shampoo and towel laid out.

-Place one hand under his torso while you use the other to rub shampoo/clean/pour water on him. Be careful not to douse water on his face, although you can wipe his face if needed. Speak to him in a calm voice while washing him so that he knows its okay.

-Long-sleeve shirt may be a good idea since it's your first time.

  8. Can't say I've ever had a cheese steak at Le Ben-Fin but a few of the top places would be Pats, Geno's, Jim's and Tony Luke's.

I would also add Rick's to that list.

Guzzi, are you still in Philly? If you're a foodie, you will want to check out Reading Terminal Market. It is also right next to Chinatown if you are into Asian food at all. If you're into shopping, you can check out the Rittenhouse Square area (west of Broad Street). Old City is also a great area to explore towards the eastern edge of the city. There are also several museums towards the Art Museum area.

  9. reminds me of Drunken Tiger. A korean-american rap group who started up in the late 80s. One of the members went to my high school :D

Oh man, I used to listen to Drunken Tiger back in high school. I hear they are still pretty popular in Korea.

  10. I remembered I had an old set of earpads from a set of Sennheiser PC-150s (http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/5b/80/75dc224128a05c1a9b4f7010.L.jpg).

I threw them on the HF2s and they are much more comfortable than the bowls. However, the sound is quite different and probably closer to what you guys are experiencing with flats as these are much more shallow than the bowls. The two main differences seem to be increased bass and slight decrease in spaciousness. I think for now I'll stick with these earpads, but I'd be interested to know what you guys think of the 414 pads.

  11. Hard to say as Grado quality varies so much. To be more specific the engraving (new style) is fair at best. One cup is passable but the other has some discoloration as if the cup was spun while lettering, and the spin marks were left behind. The cable had a twist + kink half way up to one of the cups which I've managed to coax out (I think). The old Grado cable wasn't great and the new one is not an improvement, at least in the look/feel department.

But you put them on and all is forgotten. Detailed and smooth and IMO better bass than the HF-1, with better control.

Edit: Now that I look closer there is also a kink on the other side but no twist.

Edit2: Maybe I'm being picky but... I ordered very early when they came to our attention, likely in the first 20. The first 25 were given out at CanJam yet my serial is >50 wtf.

Are the marks on yours similar to the ones on my pair?

  12. EDIT: If anyone has recs for screen protectors and/or cases that would be great. I prefer the slimmer, polycarbonate/rubbery types vs. the hard metal bulky types.

I was just looking for the same thing a couple weeks ago and the SwitchEasy Rebel seems to be one of the higher rated ones:

    Welcome to SwitchEasy

The Incase Slider also seems to be pretty nice:

I ended up getting a BestSkinsEver to cover the back for now. I will probably end up getting a Rebel at some point.

  13. I found the Head-F1 error kinda charming, but could understand others being bothered. This I'd have a hard time dismissing.

That was pretty much my take on it...the typo I could live with and it'd probably grow on me, but the marks are too much. I already emailed Todd, so we'll see what happens.
