  1. On the human side, people got really, really, really tetchy. There's something about constant heat and dust and anxiety that brings out the film noir in everyone.

This is why there will never be peace in the middle east - and Australians will always be violent criminals, for that matter. Too fricken hot.

  2. Beefy should have apart number for a rotary encoder, since he uses a rotary encoder for his Amati attenuator in his eXStatA. I bought my Amati as a kit with the rotary encoder included, so I don't know the part number.

Indeed. Here is the encoder I used for the Marc's PGA attenuator, and hope to use with this new board. It includes a push button switch that I may try and integrate, if I have time to learn how to program it.

  3. Looking forward to receiving mine. Also, for people like me who are complete noobs with the control interface, does anybody have any information on how this gizmo can be controlled? There was talk of software earlier, but I haven't seen any specific details......

  4. it's not for a big place, so really the lease is right. condo prices just went insane in Cincinnati a few years ago.

And we can thank all of these people for the GFC. People (and governments) going batshit insane on cheap credit for nothing but speculative investing.

Not today specifically, but I decided to start playing chess again. I haven't played since I was 15, some 17 years ago. So I bought Shredder for Android and it is kicking my arse in approximately 63000 different ways. Still, I've worked my way up from 1000 to 1250 ELO in a few days which I am fairly happy with......

  5. I'm going to start using lastpass for everything, and switch back to downloading emails to thunderbird.

Ouch on the situation, but good call on LastPass. Set up everything with stupidly long random passwords, and have your master password as something REALLY long, but easy to remember.

  6. Interesting time for this thread to be bumped.

I'm still looking for something as an upgrade from my ESW9 at work. They have a nice tone, but lack zing. I held high hopes for the DT1350, but am leaning more towards a set of Thunderpants. Are there any other contenders I should be considering that might be an upgrade to the ESW9?

  7. (modded a bit thanks to some gracious hand-holding from Beefy over in the HF thread). Perhaps I should call it a "beefy crack"?

Verily, I demand recognition, and so it shall be named.

  8. Good luck with this Smeggy, you do great work!

And I am really intrigued by the idea of the parts kits; an unfinished kit seems like it would keep me busy for a bit. I suspect that if you were to post some pics of the kits and some basic instructions, these would fly out of your hands.

  9. Notifications were terrible, changing certain frequently-used options laborious, and I looooooove Android Widgets.

Now I believe that some of these will be fixed in iOS5, but that wasn't on the horizon when I bought my phone.

[EDIT] Oh, and i should mention that in Canada, the iPhone is FAR more expensive.

  10. tell that to anybody who wants to run the Netflix app on their Android phone and can't, because they don't have one of the magic 6 devices ......

...... i'm sure that the compatible list for Netflix (i keep using it as an example because it's a good high profile one) will grow

Sure, but I really don't think that Netflix is a good example. It is a relatively new and high profile app that they are taking a cautious approach on. Better that they tread carefully than bork it. I have a Nexus S, so compatibility has never been a problem for me, but the vast majority of android apps do very well across the wide spread of devices.

In any case, from a pure usability perspective, I tried the iPhone 4 and the Nexus S crapped all over it for my usage.

  11. The new Google Maps update is bloody brilliant. You now have the ability to pre-load maps in a 20 mile square for offline use, and the directions include public transport integration that do cool things like warning you before your intended stop.

  12. But at least you have Kraft Dinner. Or do you just say 'KD?'. That's not regulated, is it?

I'm sure that it is regulated in some way! :(

Back on topic (almost) ... Anyone into mescal? I would like a really good bottle or two.And Shelly, I'm looking forward to the results of your science experiment! :)

Oooooh, my teenage experiences with mezcal were pretty bad. I don't touch the stuff.
