  1. So what lens are you using on the 7D?

My problem with the CF cards is more work related than anything else. The military has blocked all USB drives from it's computer systems so the only way to get pictures off the camera is to put the card into a build in card reader or plug the camera up directly. Non of our computers have CF readers of course, so it just makes things a bit more difficult.

Nothing really cool on the lens front. Just have the kit 28-135 and a the compact 70-300.

  2. No good pictures from me yet (if ever), I but I have been playing around a bunch with the Canon 7Ds that I had work purchase. What a totally awesome camera, it way outperforms my ability. I just wish/hope that Nikon will make an equivalent camera because I just don't like the way that the Canon SLRs feel in my hand. Other than it's a pretty sweet camera. Only things I have found that I don't like about it (other than the feel) is that it uses only CF cards and it will do a three shot bracket. Not like plan to do any HDR shots from a moving helicopter but I figured it would do more. Then again maybe I just need to read the manual.

    This is teh sexy :)

I know what you mean though. Awesome wood and finding well seasoned, large pieces is very difficult and very expensive. If you'd like the other half I can see about shipping it your way. They wouldn't sell a piece of it so I had no choice but to buy the whole board.

Thanks for the offer but I wouldn't be able to put it to good use for some time. Now if you might be building some Thunderpants with it....;)

  4. Wasn't expecting to got that route but when an opportunity shows itself.....

Still doesn't mean I shouldn't build something. I do think I would like to build something that could accommodate a wide range of speakers.

  5. Vandal Resistant Switches - 22mm : Performance-PCs.com, ... sleeve it and they will come

The e24 and SS relay work pretty slick. You can also get the little transformer board the go along with e24. More parts/cost but it works pretty good plus if you want to you can add some over temp protection.

Now the switches linked to above are not rated for it but they do come in a latching version and you could use a A/C relay and run line voltage through them to power the relay. Then you could power the LED of the power supply. I personally wouldn't go this route.

And the place on the east coast can use the FPE files. Only have to learn one piece of software ;)

  6. I don't think much power since I am using these near field. The internal amp is rated at 50w with a peak of 75w per ch. I doubt it can do that much though. I think a solid 5-10w would be plenty with more always being better.

Edit: Yes it would be external. Also I figure since I already have these sitting here I might as well use them.

  7. With having the constant need to tinker I was thinking about bypassing the internal amp of the A5s with some sort of toob amp. I like way the A5s sound but I think the amp is possibly holding them back a bit. Plus at low volumes it puts more power to the left speaker than the right which is really annoying. I was thinking about picking up something like the Miniwatt N3. Any better suggestions?

  8. I've stated this many times already, but I wouldn't want more bass than what the JH13 offers. So unless you're into hip-hop/club music and other genres that demand a bass boost, I'm not sure the JH16 would be a good choice, at least for the music I listen to.

I agree. On some tracks I almost wish the bass was tamed down just a bit. More I think would be over kill.

As for the JH13 being the end all be all, for me (Randy Jackson) I still think I want a top end tradition headphone because I don't always want to jam something in my ear.

  9. You might try using the save to web function in the file menu and save it as a gif file. Much smaller output.

I think Kevin likes using large files for those poor chaps without a good internetz connection. Which would be me right now.

Count me in though, because other than build something for SWT61 all I have to do is move sand around the middle east for the next year.

  10. Needed a pair of speakers for deployment that sounded good but I wouldn't be that hurt if something happened to them. Against my better judgment I went with CNETs review and picked up a pair of Audioengine A5s. These actually sound pretty darn good. Have them hooked up to a my Pico for now but it looks like they will fit the bill.

  11. Hello from beautiful sunny (and very dusty) Al Asad, Al Anbar province, Iraq. What a clown show getting here but we are finally starting to get settled in for the year. Should be around a bit more now that we have a almost decent internetz connection.

  12. I was just about to post in the another thread that I was heading out and then I saw this. Thank you for the support guys. Never fun leaving home but at least I am headed out to get this year started and over with. Plus with the all the booze and red meat I have been eating over the last week I really need to go some place hot to burn it all off:)

Catch y'all on the flip side

  13. Congratulations Naaman. You will make a great father (and I really don't say that to everyone). So what cigars will be used to celebrate the birth?

Thanks, I have been putting it off for so long I actually think I'm ready. Still going to be weird to have another little person in the house. I was actually thinking about ordering a box of Esplendidos and have them sit in the humi till I get home for the occasion.
