  1. Seems to me that a 12" netbook stops being an ultraportable, tho. From my perspective, the 8" form factor is almost perfect. By the time you're at 12", either get an old powerbook, or go to a 13" macbook...

I agree that 12" is starting to get too big for portability. The 10" Asus has become my go to laptop. The 13" touchscreen is very, very lonely.

  2. Columbus, Ohio?

Yep. I was in Columbus, Ohio attending the Midwest Fish and Wildlife Conference. I felt like a zoo keeper as it was me and 9 graduate students. Not a bad trip but since last week was finals week and grades are due by 5:00 PM Monday, it made for a hectic few days.

Anyway, I did receive a package from Amazon when I returned. Since, I had not ordered anything I assume it was your exchange item, so I wrapped up the box and placed it under the tree, amongst all the power ranger gifts. Thanks in advance and another will be forthcoming once the package is opened.

  3. Well I sent mine off today. I really hope Jacob doesn't have the daft punk retrospective collection. At least I know he doesn't have a rig to trully appreciate music of that caliber, so I know he will appreciate the boosteroo and V600's that were also sent along.

  4. i could just send you a single part, if you don't have room for a whole corpse in your house. any preference?

Well depending upon its relative state of "disrepair" the dogs may enjoy it. Would definitely stand up to much more tug-of-war fun compared to the opossums, that are the usual receptors.

  5. When you say dish, I assume you mean dishnetwork? I also assume that for on demand, the connection is between each box you want to have on demand and the router? If I'm correct I would have to have a wireless bridge for each box that I want to have on demand.

Yes. Yes. and Yes. I have a wired connection on one and wireless on the other. The wired is more responsive but both work just fine.

  6. It looks as though that after an outlay of $600 for 3 extra hd/dvr's I would save roughly $70/mo with directv (after the first 12 months when I would save more than $90). The on demand seems a bit complicated as it requires you to connect to your router. However, if I tell my wife I'm saving on the deal, she might go for it. I always thought that satellite had a better picture than cable. I should check out dishnetwork to see what they are offering these days.

We have dish with two dual tuner HD/DVR's. The on demand works great. The hookup to my router was very easy and works as advertised. It is also easy to hook up external drives to my DVR's to augment storage. Overall we are quite satisfied with it.

  7. I bought a beautiful SWT61 headphone stand from Guillaume. It was packaged perfectly and I'm not sure how he did it but it arrived here in record time. The only problem now is deciding which Omega it will hold ;D.

  8. I'm pretty sure a bunch of people agreed that the 2G touch has great sound (headphone out), better than that of the 1G. (Correct me if this is wrong)

I have a Sony A818 right now and it's fine except for the hiss. I have the stuff to make a line out dock cable, but I'd need a portable headphone amp and that's somewhere I don't think I want to go back to. At this point I'm just toying with the idea of an iTouch, with lack of funds+need holding me back.

Actually I like my 1G touch better. It may have been the abused model in the Apple store in Chicago, but the 2G I listened to had audible hiss with Senn PX200's but my 1G does not. As I said it could have just been that one unit, but it certainly made up my mind to keep my 1G until they release a model with greater storage. The processor speed difference doesn't bother me as I have had no speed issues so far.
