  1. I'm wondering: out of the people who might consider buying this thing, how many even fuck with mp3s? Seems like they're trying to hit 2 separate crowds at once...

BINGO. Give this man a prize. They have a whole raft of technologies in there but they pointed at very different market segments. The Wadia represents a simpler and more flexible solution. However, this is coming from someone who has no interest in either the Bel Canto or Wadia dock.

  2. But wait, it does this, "iPod's stereo signal to 5.1- or 7.1-channel sound" :P Seriously though, $2000.00, even for MSRP for a dock.

Right .... or I could buy the Wadia and route the digital output into my HT processor and convert it to 5.1 or 7.1 there. Hmmm .... let me see which way I should go.

  3. Well I'm 52 and the HDD based music system has fundamentally changed the way I listen to music, and for the better IMO. Burning disks is not an option anymore. I want to be able to take my entire music collection with me when I travel and i want to be able to listen when I have the small segments of free time I now have. I still rip almost all of my music from CD's, but the CD's themselves are not really used after that. The pre-pro is a good idea and it is what I use in my HT set-up. I do not have a problem using a pre-pro in my 2-channel setup, but at that point I might as well just buy a DAC. If it is not a Sony then so be it.

  4. Could one possibly mod it to include such?

I do not know about this specific model but if I recall correctly, APL used to have a digital input option on the 3910 mod. However, I think they pretty much ripped a good chunk of the original electronics out and replaced them anyway. Anyway, I'm sure it is possible.
