Ouch Doug, really sorry to hear about your grandfather. Must be very rough, seeing him go like that. I have been quite fortunate that I have three healthy grandparents still (grandmother died of cancer nearly 15 years ago), and one of them is visiting right now for my graduation, which was earlier today.

Thinking about buying a copy of Metallica's S&M CD, noticed there is both a normal US release and a Japanese SHM-CD release. Never seen SHM-CD before, so no idea if it is worth the extra money. Is it different mastering, or just some sham to get more money out of folks? The actual encoding cant be all that different, unless they dont care about backwards compatibility.

I seem to have kicked the I/V noise issues in the ass, unless I am measuring wrong. Appears to be ~200uV p-p on my Tek 7704A (7A22 plugin), though I really don't trust the resolution of my system at these levels. Need a measurement preamp and some new probes at a minimum. Next, I must add in the LPF caps and output buffers (which weren't necessary for this first stage testing), and then actually listen to it to see if there is anything audible.
Unfortunately, it seems I may have had to sacrifice the ESP950 to achieve this, as there is now a very audible noise in the right channel there.
