I've got a quick question on wiring for neatness. What is a recommended method for tying two 18awg cables from a transformer into one quick connect terminal? Should it be a short piece of 18awg cable soldered to both at one end, adding heat shrink over the junction?

Using a quick connect terminal that allows for 2x18AWG wire diameter input, Really, that's the best way.

Definitely. Tying two 18AWG into one will constrict the bass. Everybody knows that!

You can also get piggyback or side by side quick connect terminals if you want. Like stuff here: http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/764/=hcgrcp. You then put a connector on each wire from the transformer. I would go with luvdunhill's way though.
