Simplify Media

Ok, so a few of us have found this sweet program that allows you to share music over the intertubes:

Simplify Media - Connect Your Music

If you're interested, download the program and PM me for my screen name. Right now, a few of us are using it successfully. It rocks!

Well, it's been a bit buggy for me.... it was fun for awhile....we'll see if it comes back up again. I can't seem to get it to work now, although it could be my work connection is blocking it.

Yeah, I saw that too, but it was working for a little while. I was connected to two other users and streaming music from them. I could also access my home computer. Perhaps there are larger issues here. You do need to create an account, so perhaps they have some sort of server that is seeing heavy traffic right now.

I've been using it for a while and it's definitely taking a hit right now. Likely because their iPhone client just went live in the App Store and they're adding a metric shit ton of new users.

Yeah their blog talks about the iPhone client coming out yesterday and with them offering the first 100,000 downloads as freebies I'm sure they are getting hammered.

That must be it. Hopefully it will iron itself out over the next few days. When it was working it was impressive to say the least.

looks like we might be back up and running.

Added my collection to the collective Borg.

Looks like it works. I was able to load a small portion of my library (~12,900 songs) into iTunes. It looks like Cover Flow is disabled, but I guess thats a small price to pay for such a cool program.

I wont be able to take advantage of it at work (streaming isnt allowed) but it will serve a nice purpose in my home.:)

Well, I'm connected to grawk, tyrion, bigguy, and grandenigma. This app rocks. Spent the morning browsing other libraries....this may be worse on my wallet than the WAYLTN thread.

Stupid question time: can you download music from john-doe's shared folder to your own hard drive? If so, I should think the RIAA would be all over this.

not that I'm aware of, I think it's just a streaming app, no downloading.

There is an app called Mojo that has similar functionality and let's you download your friend's music as well. I haven't used it though. It does not have an iPhone/iPod Touch client though.

Ditto. My user name is the same there and here. I do have an embarrassing amount of low bit rate music, I'm afraid, as I was late to see the light.

Time to re-rip.

Getting there. It's mostly a case of re-purchasing, unfortunately.

I'm not worthy!

Conveniently, all that is lossless is in a smart playlist called ... "Lossless". ;)

Incidentally, anyone know what the bit rate of the stream is?

Your music collection is definitely not SM worthy but I felt bad.:D

:mikey2:

PS: Looks like the bit rate of the stream is 160k, so your highfalutin' bit-perfect music horde is largely moot in this application. Yah boo sucks to you with knobs on. Oh, and thanks. I like a bit of Aimee Mann I do.
