  1. If I could do it again, I'd go for the cat on clear.

    Congrats Vicki!

Looks pretty good on the electric blue, what happened to your other design?

I agree with your assement right out of the box, right now I am listening to my 11s straight out of my Iriver H120 with good results.

I haven't used it with my Imod without a amp ,but will give it a try.

It also takes some time to get used too customs,I would like it better if they used something more pliable then the hard acrylic they use.

Pretty easy to clean ,just use antiseptic wipes & the cleaning tool for the ports if needed.

  2. If there were a UE10.5, Id go with that. I don't know which one I liked better. It's hard to know because the universals dont fit my ears with any of the tips and have to be held in place. I don't think I can know without trying custom fits of both

So when are you getting both of them?;D

I listened to both of them at Canjam & went with the 11s,& glad I did.

As for the bass ,listening to the customs not the universals the 11s are amazing.

I found with the universals the bass was more bloated & a little too overpowering.

My amp of choice that I own is the PRII with the 11s,but I would like to try the Pico with the customs at some point.

  3. I had a legit offer of 2k for my vintage pair from someone overseas & turned it down. The buyer found a pair after that & I believe he paid less, then later sold them. The buyer had to have them & was willing to go that high with out even ever hearing a pair.

While most would have jumped at that offer,I thought it was over the top myself.I have owned them since 1995 & just couldn't sell them.

Don't think I didn't think about it.Call me crazy or whatever but in the end I still own them.

  4. iems are subject to burn-in? i thought the general consensus was that they aren't. i guess it makes sense if my assumption holds water that iem drivers are stationary or probably better put don't flex like most other drivers.

All I can tell you is what I hear, whether its the cable ,drivers or a combination of both.Others with UE11s also have posted about burn in on HF.

I let my ears be the deciding factor mental or not.

  5. My only issue with the UE11 was that I thought they crossed the line for me in terms of too much bass. I just don't know how much of that was related to the fit issues I had with the universal.

I felt that way about the universals as well at Canjam ,I picked the UE11s over the UE10s,with reservations.

After the secound set of impressions I finally got a good fit on the UE11s.

When I first recieved them bass did seem a little overpowering, bloated ,after some burn in the bass fell in line.

On some songs you may still get that, but that will be due to the recording.

The bass on the the Ue11s are powerfull & well defined & very tight.

I don't know how they stuffed a subwoofer in the earpieces but they did.

I have a hard time taking them out of my ears once I start listening to them.

I am very impressed with the UE11s to say the least, all my other Iems sit unused since I got them.

  6. Finally, after three months and three sets of impressions, UE finally has impressions that are good. So here's the deal, being somewhat indecisive, I can't decide between my avatar and this, minus the word,

    branding-poppy_logo2a.jpg

as the artwork, and then of course I can't decide what color monitors. I love the cat, but don't think it would work as well, and the symmetry of the flower would be nice, but translucent or solid color and what color?

    Vicki,

I can't believe you haven't recieved your UE11s yet.I got mine after the 2nd set of impressions.

Glad to say I am very impressed with them.,smoked my other IEMS.

I picked the translucent blue no artwork.

I like your art work, looks cool,it would look good on the translucent blue or even the electric blue.

I also think it would look good with the silver plated ue11s.

  7. I think Tom's problem was actually a bad tube adapter, which sounds odd to me.

I'll leave the technical explanation to someone far better suited but based on my limited understanding it sounds like both Tom's ES1 and the other gent's ES2 might be suffering from issues with trying to make that amp work with tubes that it was not originally design for, which causes biasing problems.

The problem was a bad 5687 tube adapter,I moved the adapters right to left & the distortion moved with it.I replaced the front tubes & adapters

    with VT231s,no adapters no distortion.

This is the secound tube adapter that had failed on me,the first being a very early one.

I have to agree with you the adapters may be the cause for all the biasing problems others are having.

Ken, perhaps this due to the fact that a good amount of ES-1's that have been brought to customers, after unbearable amounts of waiting times have not worked. I understand that you are talking about mob-mentality, but with a history of poor performing machines, it doesn't sit well when another one doesn't work. How many Zana's or WA5's or B-52's have we heard about this common occurence

Tom's didn't work last year or the year before (bad buzzing) at the November meet and there are other instances, and they were all blamed on "bad tubes".

Staying focused on the facts, a bunch of people were at a meet, and another ES-1 didn't work, whatever the reason might be.

I don't know why you would say that ,as in fact there where no issues at all

at the last november meet or the Nov meet in 2006 with the ES1 at all.Just reread the meet impressions thread not a word about a problem was posted ,or did anyone mention a problem to me at the meets.Only Positive comments where made to me at the meets & in the thread.

  8. I've been thinking about a McCormick DNA. Let me know when you see one that is a good deal. I figured for $900 and 21 days to try out, I figured there was nothing to lose. I've read very little that wasn't positive about his gear.

Look for a used Bel 1001. I have a pair of MK1s but I am only using 1 in my system now due to space. They can switched internally to monoblock or stereo.

A much better amp then the DNA .05 deluxe I owned before.

  9. In the "Units Reviewed" section of Part II he states "After 1.5 years, the GS-1000's too are well worked in, they have been my main headphone since I received them and I'd estimate 1200-1400 hours on them as a minimum", so I would assume this review was performed with a non-prototype pair of the GS1K's.

IIRC bozebuttons has one of the prototypes and I can't remember who has the other. I believe Jude had one of them at one point in time.

    Jude owns the other prototype.

  10. Toshiba A3 from amazon. It comes packaged with 300 and The bourne identity. I also got The departed, casino, and goodfellas as a part fo their package deal.

I also picked up a Toshiba A3 today But I bought it at a brick & motor store for 169.00,amazon had a better deal with 3 extra HDDVDs ,but I didn't want to wait.Hooked it up & watched the Bourne Identity.Great picture.

  11. Based on the sound alone, what is different/worse?

I didn't listen that long to them at the meet, but they had sounded better then I have heard them before.

The He90s are more refined, bass is more detailed & tighter ,wider & deeper soundstage. But the clones at there price are no slouch.immtbiker has them in possesion since the meet & just posted some impressions in the Chifi meet impressions thread.

  12. How come you guys are calling them 'HE90 clones'? Is it because they look a little like HE90's? I heard those headphones at the international. they sound pretty good! Not anything like the HE90's, but they sound nice and quite euphonic. As I remember, they were missing that sparkle and transparency, but did have a pleasant rounded off kind of sound. I was listening to them out of the HEV90 however at the time, and this could be part of the issue (or was it the Woo Audio... hmmm), either way. They may not have been getting all the juice they want.

    Neil

They also have been some changes cosmetically & sonicly since the international meet ,all for the better & some where listening though my Maxed ES-1 at the end of the Ny meet. They sound good but are not at the HE90 level, but neither is there price.
