  1. I don't know why anyone in today's headphone market would design an amp for 300+ ohm headphones. Talk about painting yourself into a very small corner.

[Hey Nate, how was your trip?]

Hey, it's a "special" amp, designed for xxxx phone (some Senn's, some Beyers, etc.). Probably doesn't cost so much to design/build, even if for a niche segment. And they can charge more for it as a specialty design.

Actually, I've had pretty good luck using a cable to up the impedence. I drove some AKG 271's very nicely out of the Lunchbox amp, with a 200ohm cable adapter. Not the best of all solutions, but works well. Still fondly remember that combo.

All that said, I'm not getting this amp.....

  2. Thanks to Vicki, my wife was pissed at me.

The Shure 840's I bought from her were so well-packed, and look so new, that she thought I was spending more money than I did.

I said, "No, dear....these are used, they were a GREAT deal...."

But she said, "Those look newer than the four pairs of NEW shoes I bought last week!"

And I replied, "Well, headphones don't wear out like shoes...and BTW, they are lovely shoes indeed, dear. Truly, these are used, and I used my existing Paypal balance from something else I sold. It was almost like I traded for them."

Still looking suspicious, she said, "I don't know.....I still think you're pulling one over on me..... If I find out you paid a lot for these....!"

So I put on Barbara Streisand for her, and had her listen. "Just try them. They're inexpensive, but sound kind of nice, don't they dear?"

A smile forms....she closes her eyes. "Like buttah", says she. "So who is this nice person who sold you these lovely headphones you're going to let me use?"

    "Uhhh....her name's Vicki....dear."

[Obviously, not true....I don't call my wife "dear" :D ]

Thanks Vicki for a great transaction, and for sending them 3-day.

  3. Thanks all! Hopstretch, I DID shovel the walk....and the driveway. But it felt good to breath some cool clean air, and get this fat ass excercising a bit.

Otherwise, a good "veg day" spent part of the time with my wife and son, watching the Bruins beat up Toronto and Phil Kessel go -3 on the game (DVR'd), and watching the Patriots choke like the Red Sox of yore...oh, well, can't be perfect....

"Bayou Catfish" for dinner tonight at a local fish restaurant.....yum.

Love my family, happy they are in my life. Gettin' old don't suck when life is like this!

  4. In any case, the mere inclusion of noise cancelling means, to me, that these shouldn't be treated as headphones in their own right, but as branded companion pieces to their speakers for well-heeled connoisseurs to wear while not in their mahogany libraries.

    Not to be overly stereotypical.

My library uses Madgascar Ebony. Bully on you, I say :D

But yeah, I'd be surpirsed if they built them, too. And I think the pads are indeed very odd.

  5. Hope that works out well; it looks kinda nice for the size.

I ended up biting on the Chestnut Hill George, due Veteran's Day. Not going to have too much listening time initially - lots of day and night plans, then family stuff even on the weekend - but hope to get a good taste of it quickly enough.

  6. ^^^ Saw this on Letterman last night, funny stuff. He was doing a parody of the 60 Minutes special on the H1N1 vaccine, and showed this as a reason why it's not as "available" as it should be.....
