  1. Looks like beyer did manage to release a good portable closed phone, much better sound and fit than the T50p (I had the initial version for a day before sending it back).
  2. Perhaps there has been a bad batch of them around? I've had mine for 3 months and no issues thus far. Wish there were more similar simple dacs around, just usb in and rca out. Maybe Justin will release an update to the pico dac with an async 24/96 dac he is using for the Gilmore X2.
  3. So how does this drawing too much power show up? I have 2 of them (office and home, liked the usb in rca out simplicity) and they seem to operate fine.
  4. That's one super tightly packed pcb Considering the "sound" impressions, I wonder how much of that is redundant components.
  5. Oh yeah, sorry I forgot to mention I didn't give them the 200 hours "burn in" people say they need.
  6. It's not worth it, I did the same thing - they are as terrible as people say. That and it's impossible to get a good fit if you have a small head.
  7. Black aluminum and walnut sides looks pretty darn amazing o.o! Is there a FPE for wood =P?
  8. Hi Jason, very interesting looking amp, hope you do well because I'd love to try a unit when I have some funds to blow haha. One thing that I always don't like is no voltage selector on amps. Any plans to make it come with one?
  9. Yeah, sadly no other option for me beefy - unless I take it with me when I visit parents and get my dad to solder in the resistor. Anyway, just tried the HD650s with the amp, with 0dB attenuation from foobar, I can't get past 7'oclock on the amp... I'm using dacmagic which outputs 2.1Vrms so it's not my source. So yeah I can't imagine anyone needing this much gain unless they like listen super loud. Otherwise that's pretty nice, didn't think dynalo would have the grunt to excite these enough but it does - shame they are a boring set of headphones .
  10. I see interesting, I'm going to try some -14dB goldenjacks to see if it will be enough not to have foobar attenuate at all. Even with corda swing I still needed -15dB on foobar to be able to get above 9'oclock position. Having a read online, it does seem that goldenjacks would be the cleanest method to attenuate - but where there I will tell the difference or not is another matter. Of course part of my problem is the fact anything above 53dB starts sounding too loud for my ears haha.
  11. Thanks, David that's very informative! How come using computer volume will degrade the sound? From what I understand if you are using kernel streaming, doesn't foobar do it's processing in 32bit (or 64, can't remember) float before it dithers and sends the data to the dac anyway? So lowering the volume in it has neglectable effect on sound quality? Well I lowered my foobar output to -35dB, now I can have my pot at 10 o'clock position, didn't notice any difference - still sounds just as good. I was thinking of getting attenuators for the rca in since I don't trust myself to solder the resistor in, but I'm thinking I might just trust foobar more unless someone can convince me to do otherwise. Asking here since I wouldn't trust the responses at that "other" place.
  12. Can you elaborate why anything below 9' o'clock position is worse part of potentiometer?
  13. Yeah the current gain of 11 is a bit much, which is easy to fix by lowering volume in foobar/etc. I believe Meier amps have a low gain of 2 which I find quite sufficient.
  14. Hahaha yes, I noticed threads in this place tend to cover a whole range of topics related or not to the OP. Amp itself is bigger then I though initially! That's about my other impression.
  15. Putting this thread back on topic, Nice amp, my initial impression is very transparent!
