  1. got it from onlinecomponents since their communication is literally non-existent, I was hesitant to buy from them with a listed stock of 0. however, about a month ago i noticed "on order: 1" so I snatched it, figuring I could always have the credit card company cancel the payment (the price almost seemed like a scam - though it was $720 when I bought it, and now it's listed at $570). low and behold, it was real
  2. Definitely looking forward to this build!
  3. I'm more than happy to wait - better they fix the real issue with the transducer before we have to ship the cans around for repair At least this is better than making a b.s. claim about the problem being due to pads...
  4. oops, had forgotten to send you the money for shipping. second payment sent!
  5. so in other words, if we don't want to pay a fortune, and aren't super-chummy with Kerry, we should really consider the on-board heatsink version?
  6. I realize that the hifi2000 option is distinct from a custom option - however I was hoping against hope that Justin's heatsinks could fit into the hifi2000 case, thus giving us the best of both worlds. I have the measurements for the heatsinks, and bought one of the hifi2000 3U cases (their dxf files are a joke), and the amount of work to get them together is just insane. I was secretly hoping this would be an option for us to use his heatsinks without anyone needed to do custom machining. I was just letting everyone know that it would not be so simple, and that the universe did not grant us sufficient luck in this case.
  7. fyi, the hifi2000 case doesnt mesh with justin's heatsinks. unless a ton of people want to (1) machine the cases themselves, or (2) want to buy a complete set of custom panels + hardware from fpe (very expensive), I say we forget them
  8. I'm just happy that they are being so communicative and honest. +1 for elusive disc!
  9. counterargument: Does Sony make a solid gold version of the PS3 that they sell at an ever bigger loss than the standard model? Would doing so increase game sales?
  10. if you can tell me where to get a surrounder, i'd buy one in a heartbeat
  11. Elusive Disc is stating May 6th, for what thats worth
  12. the sticker is a nice touch now you just need to fabricate some gull-wing doors for it
  13. only in the analog domain. with a good dsp, you can make almost perfect time delays in all the right places
  14. the active crossovers before the amps are FAR better than the passive crossovers inside the speaker, including with regard to phase
  15. biamping can make a substantial difference for the better - the soundstage improvement is simply incredible, I had no idea how badly some passive crossovers can mess with phase biwiring is nothing more than lowering the effective gauge of the wire (2 wires are thicker than 1), and unless you are using ridiculously high gauge wire, or are running 50 foot speaker wire runs, this will not make a difference
  16. Would calling it "The Umbra" upset Ray?
  17. The programming is way out of my league - I'd be in for 2 boards, assembled or blank, if I could get pointed in the right direction as far as control
  18. i'd certainly love an on-board 3.3v regulator. given how many practical preamp and dac uses there are for 5v, such an addition would save the trouble of adding in yet another little pcb
  19. only 256 steps!? for shame musta been a nice distraction, though, given the complexity of the other projects. definitely an elegant system
  20. 4-40 should be more than enough for anyone to mount the transistors is there a sufficiently common type of mounting hardware that we could use for calculating standoff height? several of the early builders are using different types, which I assume do not necessarily have the same thickness :/
  21. Seems there is enough interest for me to at least ask if Justin will let us use his heatsinks. If not, the hifi2000's don't look too bad, I'll try and see if we can fit inside of them (without going for the 4U version, which is just too big for my tastes)
  22. KGSS in the case of the group buy, since it would allow everyone to use a single-box, B24-style setup. I'd love the T2 style ones as well, and if we don't get 30 people willing to tap the 5-inchers themselves (a very likely scenario), I may have to extort beg Justin to sell me a set of his 3-inchers ...of course, I still havent asked the big man for permission to even use his dies. i just figured i'd get an interest check before even e-mailing him
  23. 3U heatsinks are rather easy to find... the problem is those SWEET looking angled ones that Justin designed just piss all over 90 degree standard ones
