  6. I remember learning how to program the VCR to record "The Price Is Right" on Saturday mornings. If only I had those tapes, I could digitize them and immortalize the contestants on PirateBay.
  7. I agree the overly dark/muddy sound can be too much. The early Black Sabbath (and some Deep Purple) albums that had pre-emphasis suffered from this effect (and yet people will defend these CDs to the death ). I think I do err towards the more "analogy" sounding albums which may have less resolution compared to the remasters. I don't even mind some of those kraut/psych CDs made from needle drops if they're done well But I definitely like well executed modern remasters that have plenty of detail, air and resolution without sounding too unnatural. Do you have examples of some of Eroc's good albums? From what I'm reading in the SH krautrock thread all his new stuff should be good. And is amazon.com the cheapest place to pick them up? Heh I actually like posting in the "what are you listening to now thread" on Head-Case because it encourages discussions like this rather than just post whoring like the Headfi threads.
  8. I slightly prefer the sound of the Mantra CD to the 97 Rep. It's a trade off really. I agree that Eroc does make the albums much louder, his earlier masterings were pretty bad but I guess he has admitted the mistakes in his old ways. I haven't heard any of the new stuff he has remastered.
  9. Amon Duul II - Phallus Dei (Mantra France first pressing CD)
  10. How would you do this with only one button? I keed

I don't think the current season is any better than the last couple. Though it's still watchable. I'm a picky SOB when it comes to TV
  16. They're really unbelievable on vinyl. This isn't an exaggeration when I say even going from the really good first pressing Japan CDs to early pressing UK vinyl on my friend's horn setup the sound goes from sounding flat to everything just jumping out at you and filling the room. It's too bad the UK vinyl in good shape sells for lots of money
  17. Cream - Wheels of Fire (disc 1, DCC gold) Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue IMO the remasters are just terrible. They sound very artificial and 'tinny'. The original CD releases are the complete opposite and in a few cases dark and muddy sounding (this is mostly the European discs, the first pressing Japan discs are good. This is a generalization and it can go either way). Though they still manage to sound more natural compared to the remasters. Sabbath has to be heard on vinyl. Just one of those bands that didn't get treated well on digital \
  18. No problem, updated first post.
  19. I didn't edit anything except the donor list (which I see is now out of date ) I can fix the email if you want or leave it as is.
  20. Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (CLACD early pressing CD)
  21. Or white gold if you have the week off and planning to hit the slopes
  22. I think this is just one of those phenomena that could have happened with any piece of gear. I'm still in the market for vintage since there are only a few modern DACs that use the PCM1704, and the good ones that do are $5000+. To the OP, my suggestion still stands...
  23. Yup it's the size of an LP cover. And weighs about as much as ~ 3-4 double 180 gm LPs
  24. I cracked the seal on my copy of "Quad: The Closest Approach" and the book is simply exceptional. The presentation is wonderful (and heavy ), great pictures and all around good read. I was not expecting it to be so substantial.
