  1. I'm seriously deathly afraid of getting a Melos because of their reliability and difficult servicing. But I really would like a high end tube amp specifically for Grados. The PPX3-SLAM sounded great, but if theres better I'm all for it. And if SinglePower can do it, then they would have my money.
  2. Holy shit are you younger/older than jagwire and skyline938592882012873?
  3. I wish I could build Very interesting. Of the commercial amps available what you think is the best pairing for the RS-1? God I want an uber
  4. Mainly read it for fun. I'm aware of their bias. The Benchmark DAC1 is an excellent DAC. Someone in headfi did an A/B comparison between DA10 and DAC1 and he said the differences were very minute. People seem to have their mind made up on it based off what just others say. To me the DAC1 isn't very far off from my Bel Canto DAC2. Maybe ever so slightly a tad brighter...but would I be able to tell them apart in a blind test? Probably not. Seriously. The claims Ori makes are ridiculous.
  5. I got my October Stereophile a few days ago. Benchmark DAC1 is still Class A. The only DAC under $1000 that is Class A. I really wish they'd review the Lavry.
  6. I wouldn't say so. I don't have a lot of experience with high end DACs but to me the DAC2 doesn't place emphasises on any frequency. I'm still waiting to get the Lavry DA10, I could then do a comparison
  7. ^__^ (not me I dodge chinese hifi) So far the Opus 21 is the best CDP I've heard. I prefered it to the Meridian 588. Someone at the Boston meet said he tried the digital in from his computer (not sure what soundcard) he said it sounded great but not as good as the CD transport.
  8. I have a DAC2 right now. I was on the list to get an in home trial on the DAC3, but decided against it after getting the K1000 One sold on Audiogon (probably in a matter of seconds) for $1400 not too long ago.
  9. I have no idea, I've never heard any of the eggos. A lot of people like them at Headfi, the MDR-D66 is quite famous. I think the appeal is that it's a cheap sealed (foldable?) headphone that usually priced at around $100.
  10. They're the new high end "eggos"
  11. How do they come up with their blue book values? Averaging the costs of what the items go for in the classified section? Is their blue book accurate?
  12. Justin thats an awesome looking faceplate for the amp
  13. What headphone excels with what music? Or do you just like the change for everything? (i have never heard the HP-2)
  14. Best thread in off topic.
  15. Whats bad about the RA-1, I've never heard one.
  16. The K1000 need a minimum of 8watts to come even close to their potential. I heard the K1000 out of a PPX3-SLAM it sounded good, but I've heard it sound much better.
  17. Tool (opening band was Isis) on Oct 3 Manchester, NH. It was an average show.

    Stax Omega 2

Dude the K1000. By far. K1000 has some of the best impact I've heard in a headphone; and I listen to them about 1.5 cm toed out. The Omega 2 felt like it had more impact than my STAX SR-404, but the SR-404 was a little tame.
  19. aerius I thought you were a K340 user? Weren't you DIYing a custom tube amp for them?
  20. I'm no SinglePower expert but the PPX3-SLAM is the best I've heard the RS-1 sound. I can only imagine the MPX3 sounding great as well. And yeah I was thinking of getting one with preamp option as well, I made a thread about it here: http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=199141 $120 is a pretty cheap addon for a preamp. I think RS-1 and K1000 would be a nice contrasting combination.
  21. I prefer every other AT. I've only heard the A500, AD2000, W5000, W11jpn and L3000. The L3000 is super bass heavy, doesn't have the soundstage and imaging of the other ATs, slightly recessed midrange and a grainy treble. Being made out of the most luxurious leather is all it has going for it imo edit: sorry Reks I didn't see your post.
  22. I can't stand the GS-1000. Yet another super bass boosted headphone to please...um...I don't even know at the price they're charging. Boring, sucked out midrange what was Grado thinking The PS-1 is cool since it still has an awesome midrange.
  23. It sounds so good out of a good amp and source (ppx3-slam nos tubes), but at the same time so good even out of a simple circuit portable. So sweeet with Clapton Unplugged, no harsh treble at all. Does anyone know what Powermax (if thats the name of the company) was selling them before the drama bomd ensued? edit: $530
