  1. That's just un-American. I take back my nomination for you for Prsident 2008 until you rethink the cereal issues at hand!

Dubya is gonna be president for all of 2008 anyway, unless he actually manages to choke on some curly baked snack properly next time. Maybe I could run for you in 2009 on the Weetabix ticket?

Don't get me wrong. I fucking love cinnamon. I just don't like it to be the primary ingredient in food. I like apple pie to taste of apples, with some cinnamon about it (and nutmeg and currents). Not to be a lumpy sugary pastry crusted cinnamon tasting paste.

Also, cinnamon in a trace sprinkling, is the secret of the best mashed potato. But a pinch, at the most.

My dislike for sweet cereals is a breakfast thing, I don't liek anything sweet at breakfast. No sugar in my tea, no syrup on my pancakes, no jam on my toast (and I like all of these things).

I can eat Frosties, or Ricicles, but as a snack at 6pm. Not as day fuel at 9am.

The points about whole milk in this thread are all well made I should add.

  2. UK cereals ftfw. I've never understood the American fetish for cinnamon flavoured everything, breakfast cereals least of all. If you want to make cheesecake I certainly wouldn't pick UK Philadelphia, I always thought you were supposed to use Marscepone, but then cheesecake itself means 20 different kinds of dessert depending on location. British cheesecake is basically marscepone mixed with your choice of flavour, on top of crushed digestive biscuit and with jam/chocolate/whatever on top. Its not cooked at all.

To move back to cereal though, I think Weetabix is king of breakfast cereals.

Hot or cold, crisp or like porridge, they win. For sugary cereals, I have a great fondness for Start, although that's now increasingly hard to find. Shreddies are good too, although the best ones are the quite new honey ones, which are almost as hard to find as Start.

Anything based on oats, especially porridge, while nominally good for you, clogs up my bowels like I've downed the contents of a cement mixer. And I cannot abide very sweet or oddly flavoured cereals. That includes Frosties and Cinnamon Grahams, or Cheerios.

  3. That didn't stop Precide from sticking a Hirschmann on the AMT even though the jecklin electrostatic used the same connector (and so did the plasmasonic plasma headphone)

Stick the AMT into a Jecklin electrostatic transformer and say goodbye to the drivers because im fairly sure that they'd pick up the bias voltage as a drive signal.

Since when has common sense been the primary concern of anyone involved in hi-fi ;)

  4. I ask because the AKG K1000 uses one configuration (i was told it was this anyway):

    1 - left channel live

    2 - left channel earth

    3 - right channel live

    4 - right channel earth

Which I duplicated when i reterminated my Ergo AMT and made a Hirshmann adapter:

pin 1 - no connection to headphone

pin 2 - dotted line - left channel negative (2)

pin 3 - unmarked inside - left channel live (1)

pin 4 - no connection to headphone

pin 5 - unmarked outside - right chennel live (3)

pin 6 - continuous line - right channel negative (4)

...and duplicated again when I replaced the panel and connector on the TakeT H2/TR-2.

Except that the TakeT H2 paperwork, and the sets coming from the company dont use this configuration.

They have 3 as right earth and 4 as right live. The left channel on 1 and 2 is the same.

Have I been given the wrong information in the first place, or is it actually just up to any individual manufacturer? Is there a standard?

This clarification would be important for those who might be using a K1000 configuration pigtail to drive an H2 directly (if the K1000 XLR configuration I've been using is the right one)

    Thanks.

  5. I've read that they weren't as nice in a few places too. The tweeter change seems to the be the root of most complaints, getting rip for being to harsh/bright/strident/grainy/insert your phrase of choice.

The original L can be a little on the bright side for my liking in the first place depending on how much toe-in you use. Monitor style facing straight in didn't do it for me.

I also think that the protruding feet on the L2 floorstanders ruin the look, and I'm not as keen on the not as gloss a bit more real wood finish.

  6. I think of the kind of soft mostly tasteless almost pulp-like sludge which is more like double plate fried then stewed in a tin onions which is the "fried onions" you'll typically get at any UK vendor (mostly vans) who offer such an addition to your grade Y burger.

  7. Would they be able to sustain the weight?

It would probably have to be a Chuck Norris mannequin. Or equivalent.

Surrounder weighs about the same as air. Its made of expanded polystyrene. And everyone knows that expanded polystyrene has the best acoustic properties, that's why the HE90 is made out of it too. See how tech trickles down from the flagship?
