  1. Definitely not on par with most of the stuff that's in here, but these are some pictures that I took a while ago, and I just felt like sharing them:
  2. There have been quite a few for sale, lately, mainly around the 2K mark. Most for a bit less actually (like mine, which was 1.800 and another one that was 1.600) and some for a lot more, such as the one that's currently at the other place. There was also another one on eBay for like 2.200. I guess about 2K is what they seem to be going for nowadays.
  3. Thanks, guys. That's quite helpful. Looks like I'll stick to the 13s once I take the plunge!
  4. Nice! The only thing that worries me slightly is the possibility of them losing their visceral impact. I don't know, but sometimes I feel that spaciousness sort of softens the blow. But well... guess that's me just being overly worried.

I really don't know, couldn't find anything on the internet about this other than the Wikipedia article. It makes you wonder though, 1:11.2 means a HUGE difference between Prost's lap and the Stig's, especially since apparently it's the regular Veyron.

catscratch, I actually wasn't expecting that time at all. Even with that much power, the fact that it's softer and more of a GT car than the Zonda made me think it would, at best, match the Aventador and MP4. But apparently it's not that soft Skimming through the Veyron's article on Wikipedia, I found something really interesting: "however in 2009 Alain Prost took his own Veyron round the track in a time of 1:11.2. This was never mentioned by Top Gear as it was felt that it would have made The Stig look bad." It needs a citation and I didn't find anything about this, but anyway... Oh, and I've never been the supercar type as well. I do like Lamborghinis and some Ferraris, but I'd take something like a Morgan Aeromax or Bentley Brooklands over those anytime. The exception is the SLR.
  7. Thanks, jp! But you consider the 13s freqphased to be the natural upgrade over a standard 13 then? I asked because it seemed, judging by the other two accounts, that the 16s could be that natural upgrade, and not anymore a bassier version of the IEM with a mainly different soung signature. I currently have a standard JH13 and want to upgrade in the near future, but I don't want a basshead earphone, so I was confused by that. The JH-3A is a different story because of the bass control, but if I stick with the regular IEMs, I would suppose the freqphased 13s were the natural upgrade, but cutestory and Larry's accounts made me somewhat confused.

Finally! Epic Huayra test. I find their cars to be amazing mostly because they're one of the VERY few today that still maintain the passion and flair that cars used to have until, I think, the 1940s. He didn't mention quite a few things that are well known about this car now, though – such as the different turbo noise and the fact that it's softer than the Zonda, and has a totally different objective.
  9. Interesting that two people found the JH16s freqphased to be an upgrade over the regular 13s. Isn't it a bit too bass heavy compared to that, or was that characteristic lost among the extra clarity and coherence brought by the freqphasing?
  10. Oh, I know José! He's from our Brazilian headphone group, real nice guy. How are you doing? I've got a HE500 and really like it. I'd also second Tyll's opinion, at least regarding the 500s. The velour gives you some more grunt in the low end and tames the highs a little bit, which is good since the spike it's got in the treble completely destroys its ability to render cymbals and treble instruments properly.
  11. Oh, thanks! That's very helpful. The dust still bothers me quite a lot. How's the result with the HPA-1? I've been offered an HPA-2 for my Melos, but unfortunately the guy backed out...
  12. Oh, alright, sounds reasonable! Something for me to think about, as money, as they say around here, isn't exactly growing on trees right now...
  13. You guys think the freqphased renders the 3A useless? Interesting... I had pretty much decided to get one. Aren't there other aspects of the DSP/DAC/ADC that make it worthwhile, especially for use with an iPod+CLAS set?
  14. Thanks for the help, guys. Peter, I've got a K271 lying around, maybe it's worth a try! Although I'll have to find out where I can find a ZeroStat here! nikongod, that's exactly where the dust is. As I said, I don't think it has any effect on sound quality, but I don't like seeing that dust there... It doesn't have gobs of power, but from everything I've heard with it (and I've heard quite a few things) it's one of the better ones, even though it does lose some refinement and can't go very loud!
  15. Oh hey Doug, didn't know you were around! I tried that already, brushing the drivers softly with a brush, but I still can't get most of it out... By the way, do you have another K1000? Despite not liking the HP1000/SHA-1 combination, I think the Melos works somewhat well with the AKG, actually.
  16. Such a beauty... I'm very sorry for bumping this again, but I have a question, hope you guys don't mind. My HP1000 doesn't have the screens, so quite a bit of debris (bits of the old yellow foam) has gone in the drivers. I don't think it has any negative sonic effect, but it does bother me considerably. Is there any safe way of removing it? Can't think of anything.
  17. I honestly think it's quite possible to prefer the Merlin to the JH13s, at least the old ones. I prefer the JH, but the Merlin's sound signature is very appealing!
  18. Larry, I'm aware that customs differ slightly from universal, and this makes me even more impressed with the Merlin. I do think that the UM and JH13Pro are more similar than dissimilar, but in any case they complement each other nicely.
  19. I've got a Unique Melody Merlin demo on loan and it sounds great. I'm opening this thread since I've never read anything here about the company, and based on what I'm listening, they appear to deserve some careful consideration, especially given JH Audio's dubious customer support. The Merlin is a hybrid, and has dual highs, dual mids and a dynamic for lows. It's more forward than my JH13s and delivers more bass - stepping into HE500 territory -, but without losing any definition or texture. It's a pretty fun sound signature, although more grainy and a bit less refined than that of the JH. But then it's about 200 bucks cheaper, and the build quality is considerably better than what I've seen from JH Audio. I woudn't replace my 13s for them, but if I was buying my first custom, I'd probably save those 200 dollars. I promise I'm no shill, but I'm pretty happy with what I'm hearing, so just letting you guys know that it's another great CIEM maker. I haven't heard the freqphased JHs though...
  20. Indeed! If anything though, recently I finally figured out what I'm actually looking for, and I guess I'm getting close to reaching the point where I'm getting the things that will make me totally satisfied with my gear!
  21. That's what I'm looking for, Ryan! Just an amplifier that goes out of the way. jvlgato, I hope I manage to sell mine here in Brazil, so that I wouldn't lose any money. And I do agree it's about the journey! Except when you get frustrated along the way hahaha!
  22. Well, it was definitely a learning experience as I learned a bit more about what I don't like – which is always a good thing, but I hope I can sell it at little to no loss... I really do feel, as you all said, that it's really overhyped... but well, the deed is done. recstar, that's a possibility, but the first owner had it upgraded, checked and everything. He may have messed it up, though. It is definitely unrefined, but I think because it adds too much bass, with no definition. The mids lack definition as well. Simply not a pleasant experience. Guess I'm really going for a wire-with-gain thing, à la GS-1. If I can find one, that is.
  23. Despite originally intending to get a DHSA-1, I managed to trade my Eartube for that friend's upgraded SHA-1 (the Meier was originally his), because it was a great opportunity as well as a cheaper option of something that theoretically has great sinergy with the HP1s. But I gotta say, I'm very disappointed. I get the pairing, it makes the Grado a lot mellower, but it takes away that raw character that I love about those Grados. Makes the lows a lot fuller but also less defined. I much prefer the result with my old JVC A-S5 integrated...
