1. Your determination and drive is exceptional. With all the new MTBs on this list, I decided to give it another go. Anyone else SSing? http://salsacycles.com/bikes/el_mariachi_ss
2. Thanks, its a recurring situation based on work related lower back injuries. I can barely hold my torso upright sitting or standing this morning. I'll be back in 3-8 weeks, based on past experience. Need to stay positive.
3. I'm on the sick list--hurt my back. I'm bored already. Damn...
4. See if you can get a dated extension, like 12+ months etc. For that level of frame, it would do you good to put in 6-10k mi. to really find out what kind of rider you'll end up as.
5. Not sure if I posted these here from a few weeks ago, but the tire probably has about 500 mi. Made it up and down a 1400' climb with a $5 bill. $5bill a by pigmode, on Flickr $5bill b by pigmode, on Flickr
6. Last time I switched saddles, the process ran through about $1k in saddles including buying selling one twice (duh). It took several months and can't quite say the one I settled on is comfortable, but it gets out of the way with no discomfort for *hard* rides up to 6.5 hr (so far). Occasional discomfort sets in on moderate pace rides that go over 2.5 hr, especially at the end of a high mileage week.

7. Very low mileage, lawyer tabs already filed down--it needs a crankset, RD, BB, BB adaptor, and saddle. caad1 by pigmode, on Flickr
8. ^ Okay, take care. I've screwed up my own recovery in the past, because I was too stubborn to take the chance of losing fitness to allow an adequate rest period and a properly slow ramp up when back in the saddle.

9. ^ Almost seems like you're prolonging recover by pushing too hard too soon, but its your injury so you should know best.
10. I know the feeling having injured both knees in '95 and couldn't ride for over 10 yr. Bought a nice bike in 2005 but that was a false start. Have been riding again for 3 years now.
11. It will be a handful, that's for sure. I'll be scheduling a few time trials next year as well, and hopefully set up a good team for the Honolulu Tinman triathlon.
12. I have a list believe it or not, but it consists of a number of small but challenging steps which would probably be nonsensical to others. Among other things I wish to improve my century time by 30 min, and climb Haleakala next year. Will update.
13. Thanks for the input. A Kirk is my grail in terms of a steel frame.
14. ^ Ahh, thanks. I consider Dave Kirk the ultimate builder of steel frames. He's the ubermensch when it comes to knowledge and skill. Still, there are a couple other good options in steel.
15. Agree, affordable with high quality. I had a Cervelo R3 and although it handled quicker than I prefer, it really put the power to the ground both in the flats and on the hills. Unfortunately it proved too stiff for my injured neck. I need a more forgiving frame.
16. I'm thinking about a Kirk or possibly a Moots Vamoots CR, although the gamble of not liking the ride of titanium after spending that much bucks is almost unbearable. My two frame experiment with carbon is over, metal being a closer fit for both my station and age. Five months is the most I'll wait.
17. I'd like to lose 5 lb, and maybe this new low cholesterol diet will help. I dropped 42 LDL points in 5 weeks, with 17 more to go.
18. Wouldn't it be great to have taken your Gunnar up to Bozeman for a ride/fit analysis with Dave? Knowing my own weaknesses with consumerist moderation, I'd be worried to put in a deposit on a custom and still continue to look at other bikes.
19. ^ Don't rush it unless you're really young, especially with new cleats/shoes set up by someone else. A moderate ramp-up is always good.
20. The Look/Shimano pedals rotate differently than Speedplay.
21. I'm leaning towards the Missionworkshop Sanction for a cycling pack. http://missionworkshop.com/products/bags/backpacks/rucksack/sanction.php
22. Dura Ace, which uses a refined Look cleat. I have 2 sets and last years S-Works shoes.
23. At this point I think Dave Kirk is the only candidate framebuilder I have for a custom steel frame. The other option currently is Spectrum, with whom I've already had a successful collaboration. Bike handling/fit, and high quality paint are my priorities in that order.
24. Visualize the bottom bracket as a fixed point. - Extend upward two seat tubes at 74° and 75°--the top of the 74° ST will sit ~8mm to the rear of the 75° ST - to maintain the same vertical relationship to the BB, the saddle on the 74° ST will sit ~8mm forward on its rails than on the 75° ST - moving forward from that same fixed point at the top of the seat tube: - the 53cm TT ends up 2mm more forward at the head tube than 52cm TT, because it begins ~8mm further back
