^ Good intel on 307A BA availability status. The Millet 307A is also a favored option. Reports on the Millet seem to indicate a stronger lean to neutrality, which is what fits my needs.

I want to enjoy my current system before getting into the fray again, but a new amp this Fall would be nice. Depending on what options come up, but I'm still guessing the 307A BA would be a good upgrade from the Millet Arete/Volcano.

Wes @ Neko Audio is getting together a new round for his loaner program--an ideal chance to expand your knowledge of what works *in* your system. I was one of those who drank the kool aid (with my wallet). According to the website the D100 MK2 does 24/192.

Sorry for the simplistic questions, but I'm trying to understand the steps you are applying. It would be nice to see the same thing done for the Neko DAC. - The RCA jack on the Octave was replaced with BNC (was this a simple re-solder replacement, or did you have to verify and adjust for 75 ohms) - The CD transport still had an RCA jack, which you tested with 75ohm BNC cable with RCA adaptor? What is your next step?

As long as I've stayed away from Safari (Chrome), there hasn't been any further issues with Amarra. In that mode light multi-tasking has been trouble free, that with either 2 to 4 GB memory allotted to Amarra. Looks like 512 GB SSD's have come down about $200. in the last few months (newegg 512 Crucial $639.99).

Whale basically took the thoughts out of my head. The natural tonality of the D100 MKII is sweet and engaging. The Neko showed my current DAC presenting its highs and upper-mids in a slightly contrived forward perspective. In comparison the Neko is smooth, detailed and without glare. The MKII excels with classical, showing depth and clarity through formerly smeared presentations. Specifically I would mention one of my current favs--Hilary Hahn's Paganini No. 1. The D100 MKII does violin very well, conveying texture, tone, and speed in a gratifying fashion. My one disappointment is a lack of speed in the mids (and upper-bass). So far I've noticed this most in Chopin's Scherzo No. 2 in B flat minor, where the leading edge of the quick strikes come off noticeably rounded off. Still, in an overall sense, for me the D100 MKII creates a compelling sound experience.

I like red led on port, green on starboard, and white in the back, so I can tell which way the sound is moving.

Awesome! I was racing a Hodaka Super Rat when OAS first came out (either that or the Yamaha 125 Enduro with bent fork, and the dam electric start so you couldn't remove the battery).

Although Amarra's software seems crude, its audio quality has become indispensable. Here's hoping for Lion integration before the next 15" MacBookPro comes out.

I feel for you, having gone through the same thing 10 days ago. My father was also 83, and I missed his last moments by about 30 min. I absolutely dreaded the funeral but seeing family, and especially all of his friends, helped tremendously to relieve much of the grief.

Substitute "sweet" for "spotlit", and that seems to be the common denominator for the ATH I've owned. Pretty cool for a while, but eventually the ATH can't justify the space they take up.
